pixies

i really dislike surfer rosa, mainly due to the production. i've never understood why everyone loves that album. it has some strong songs on it but overall the dryness of the sound is just completely off putting, to me. doolittle is a good pop album but i'm not a huge fan of it. bossanova and trompe le monde are both amazing albums though. their bside collection is very good as well. i used to be a bigger pixies fan but now a lot of their music just kind of bores me. i think there's a time and place for them, probably when you're a teen and haven't discovered a lot of music. they can be life changingly good then, but as an adult i just find a lot of their stuff to be repetitive and, at times, really annoying.

When I was a kid, the Pixies were my all time favorite band. I didn't have any other friends who liked them and it seemed like no one even knew who they were. This made it feel like they were my own special private good thing. I liked thinking that no one cared about the best band in the world but me.

Then came the fight club soundtrack and everything changed.

Call me a cunt for thinking so, but they don't seem as special anymore now that everyone thinks they are rock gods.

I still think their music is some of the best ever made, though.

also first got a record player 15 years ago or so just to start collecting pixies records so that I could have every b-side from all of their vinyl LPs what were too hard to find on cd. That was before they released the B-sides cd.

i'm such an old schooler I still can't think of Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim as separate albums, as the original US release CD had both together. It was only later that they realized they could make more money by separating them, heh.
