  1. 1. When you buy a hardcopy album (cd/vinyl/whatever), do you then listen straight off the hardcopy or just rip it and listen to mp3s?

I buy vinyl and usually make a digital file (aiff) and burn it for my car and keep the files on my laptop. However, my stylus is badly deteriorated so recently I buy vinyl and don't play it, and download crappy mp3s, sometimes flac. I carry an enormous case of copied cds for my car. I usually play vinyl when im drunk.

I usually only buy stuff that I really really like but when I buy the cd, I usually rip it onto my computer and rarely use the physical cd. Exception to that would be records. I pull my records every now and I stroke my penis while playing them.

I am pretty spontaneous/random when I am playing music on my computer, so I can never use the physical cd because I change my mind on what I want to listen to every couple of minutes and I cant be arsed to reach for the physical cd everytime I wanna play something different.

I buy CDs/records for the artwork and for supporting the artists I really like. I dont really need it for fuctionality.

I live in a town with two department stores, and one music store, so I buy CDs when I can find the one I want, but I either use amazon's mp3 store or order CDs. I play CDs at home, and mp3s when driving. Vinyl to follow, hopefully (at home, not driving).

Once I purchase a CD, I immediately delete the files from my computer, because I don't own an mp3 player and I need to save space on my hard drive. I always use the music that I purchase in physical format.

Unexpectedly, some WATMMers still use a discman. I also use one when I am in the mood for taking a walk outside or when I wash the dishes in the kitchen.

whoa, old school!

I am more broke than old school.

The faster you get out of the physical medium, the better you will be in the future. Irrelevant of ripping bitrates and all. Anyway the cost of disk space is moot these days, it's like a cent per gb. So 2 cents if you are intelligent and backup everything. Don't go "oh so much time wasted backup up". Bitch if you didn't back up your CD for a start, you would lose anything.

Records are expensive but once you get into it its like crack without the downside. I love nothing more than shuffling through the collection on a Sunday morning and pulling out X, Y or Z for the first time in ages. Making mix tapes and generally enjoying the vinyl .... records are your friends.
