how do you force yourself to relax?

Guest my usernames always really suck

Like every time, after I play 10 hours of Team Fortress 2, and I'm done playing it for the day... well, I can't wind down. I can't relax or focus on anything. I spend the rest of the day or night just refreshing WATMM, Slashdot, 4chan, and YouTube because I can't stop feeling edgy and tense.

Deep breathing doesn't work. Music doesn't work. Fapping actually makes me even more tense afterwards.

So... is it possible to force yourself to get focused on something serious after you spend most of your day goofing off?

i find taking one or two shots of alcohol lightens my mood without making me useless.

alternatively, smoking marijuana (like cigarette) makes it very easy to jump into a song and poop out ideas.

or the sober way for me is to sit outside (middle of the night), stare out into the empty streets, and daydream.

No, it's not. As Cesar Milan would put it, exercise, discipline, affection, in that order. It's not opposable thumbs or language that is the defining feature of human existense, it's our inexhaustable stamina for physical exercise. We're not particularly strong or quick as an animal, but we're a jack of all trades made to go on indefinitely. It's our hunter-gatherer past. We have more in common with wolves than chimpanzees, who are quite simply lazy monkeys sitting on their bulbous arses all day. Playing video games for 12 hours in a row is the absolute opposite of what we have evolved to be, and you will never be able to relax as you are denying a fundamental aspect of the human condition. Try walking up and down a few hills. About 20 miles worth. Cut out refined sugar from your diet. Then you will be able to relax.

ive discovered your problem.

Maybe you shouldn't play that game for 10 hours. And you can't really "force" yourself to relax. Part of the problem is probably that you want it so badly, and then you get antsy because you don't know how to relax. Just let it happen.

Force is probably the wrong word to use. Relaxing shouldn't take too much effort. Take a 15 minute break from your games every hour.

Guest maantecaaa!!!

Try this breathing technique, if it doesn't work for you then you're likely stressing yourself out too hard...OVER A VIDEO GAME:

the 4-7-8 breath:

breathe in for 4 seconds

hold for 7

breathe out making a 'whooshing' noise (in order to regulate the rate of your exhale) for 8 seconds.

do this 4x, or until you reach the level you want to be at. It WORKS. Everytime I reach that 4th round, I can literally feel my energy level drop down a notch. I've never gone past 3 sets of these until I pass out.
