I dislike twitter.

What are your thoughts?

Its like the worst thing about facebook, those 'whats on your mind' status things. Hate that shit.

i think they're made for people with decent mobile phones. I don't have such a thing, or I might twit or tweet or whatever just to spam my new EP.

I signed up and then realised how wank it was before I consigned a tweet to posterity.

Had an email a few weeks ago that some American bird was 'following' me. Turned out it was some spammy bra company or summat. I felt cheap and used, but without the inherent incentive to crack one off.

I think the twitter thing is sort of alright and useful for famous people who a decent number of people actually give a shit about.

Some people lead interesting enough lives for it to be cool to check their shit out. Like that dude who lives in the cave in the desert with no money and no job and eats wildlife and shit and treks into town to use the public library to post on his twitter. People like that have a practical use for it.

Otherwise its a very self serving tool that leads the user to mistakenly inflated ego.

They should have a committee in charge of judging whose lives are interesting enough to warrant actual real time status updates.

i totally agree with you. professionally speaking, i think it's a great service to keep up contacts with any associates or other business connections, keeping them informed of your recent goings-on, upcoming work, etc. and this similarly applies to celebrities, though the followers would extend past your professional circles and associates to the general public. i think its value to these kinds of people warrant its existence, but most people definitely do use it in really inane ways, assuming people give a shit what they're up to every second.

once i've got full-time work (and respective time outside of work to work on music or other motion design stuff), i think it'd make sense to use twitter as a professional tool, but until then, no real reason.

You do know that Facebook added status updates after Twitter had been around for two years right? And now they're adding "public" status updates to try to be more like Twitter.

You do know that Facebook added status updates after Twitter had been around for two years right? And now they're adding "public" status updates to try to be more like Twitter.

facebook was trying to buy twitter and when they couldn't, they just implemented a similar set up in the form of a redesign. most people working for facebook were against this and most of the decisions made by zuckerberg were thought of as going against sound corporate logic. there was a cover story about this in fortune magazine that basically explained how reckless zuckerberg is.
