Joyrex, how much do Sony pay you to do this?

Not a dime... just a fan of PlayStation, that's all

I'm considering this at the lower price. Already have an xbox. Are there any decent rpgs other than the ones I can get on xbox? Might be the deal sealer/ breaker.

(off the top of my head) PS3-exclusive RPGs:

White Knight Chronicles (due out in english this March)

Demon's Souls (due out this October if I recall)

Tales of Vesperia (the PS3 version is superior in having extra story/characters) - dunno when an english version will see the light of day, but IS coming)

Probably some others, and I think it's safe to assume the PS3 version of Final Fantasy 13 will be the superior one, if not only for the lack of disc-swapping, but most likely the superior textures (they're gonna have to cut corners somewhere to get it to fit into 18GB over two DVDs for the 360 veresion). This remains to be seen, though.

Is the Netflix instant watch thing on available on PS3?

No - so far, Netflix's deal with Microsoft is exclusive.

PSN does suck compared to live, but I love the console. I wonder if my 500GB drive would fit in a slim, and if they have coupons for current owners...

Yes, any SATA laptop HDD will work in the regular PS3/PS3 Slim. There appears to be a 250GB version of the Slim as well, but nothing officially announced yet, just a FCC filing showing it's existence.

I highly doubt they are offering coupons for current owners - if you just bought a PS3 for 399 or more, and it's within the return period, I would either take it back and wait for the Slim, or see if the store has any sort of price guarantee now that the official price is 299/399 for the current stock of consoles.

Also, the one notable change for the Slim is there is no longer the "install other OS" feature" anymore - this allowed PS3 owners to install Yellow Dog Linux on the console for a dual-boot experience (I doubt many people utilized this however, hence their dropping of the feature). It also cannot stand vertically without a base (sold separately) due to it's thinner proportions.

Really, the point about it being a Blu-Ray player is compelling - I mean, I'm a high-def junkie, but have been on the fence about Blu-Ray as I definitely wouldn't pay the cash for a stand alone player and I always felt the PS3 cost too much for me to drop when I already had a gaming system.

300 bucks for the PS3 system for exclusives and Blu-Ray integrated, plus a big ass hard drive is a perfect price point. Kudos to Sony - Megaton FTW

any official ps3 slim images out yet?

Tons... there's even unboxing videos out there as well. The pre-order page on Amazon.com has them as well.

I've got one of those original ps3's that have ps1/ps2 emulation, flsah card reader and 4x usb ports if anyone in the East Australia area is interested in buying it off me. Comes with two controllers and is in great condition but has no box or manuals.

Australia? Are you guys NTSC or PAL? And would there be an electricity/voltage/whatever issue?

PAL, and yes, they run on 240 if I recall. So you'll need a stepdown converter.

Although, with HDTV, I don't know if PAL/NTSC applies anymore...

My 360 died last week. Since I really want to get some PS3 exclusives like Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Project Trico etc. (right now, the only 360 exclusive I'm looking forward too is Alan Wake, and that'll get released on PC as well) So I bought myself this pack: PS3 slim, 1 extra dual shock 3 controller, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, GT5 Prologue and Infamous. Price: €507. I wish they'd put Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on PSN for PS3 though.
