What's so great about connecting your console to the internet?  I get that the online arcades let you play games for free, and download retro games, and some other pretty cool stuff, but can you surf watmm, or porn, for that matter?

Yes, and yes.

Oh wait - the 360 doesn't have a web browser, does it?

it's actually quite handy if you don't have a smartphone/laptop near you in the living room, and you need to Google GameFAQs, etc. plus watching YouTube or Gametrailers on the bigscreen...

Ok, I think I'm starting to see how handy this might be.  Instant access to free online walkthroughs if you're stuck, plus cheats without having to sit at the computer in the spare room and yell instructions all the way down the hall to your wife so she can finish a sidequest.

If you can't progress through a game without walkthroughs then why are you even playing games?

You've never used any walkthrough for any game?  Ever?

After beating a game I'll look to see if I missed anything or what I could have done better.

But during a game? Fuck no, that removes all the fun and enjoyment out of figuring things out.

If I have trouble in a game, like really fucking annoying trouble, I'll just put the game down and pick it up again in a few months. That works for some inexplicable reason. I remember a dragon boss in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door near the end of the game that was a royal pain in my asshole, I tried for several days on-and-off to beat it and I just couldn't, no matter which strategies and setups I tried.

And then about four months later I brush the dust off and play the game again...and I beat that boss on my first attempt.

I don't mean using the walkthrough for every little snag you catch, to hold your hand to cross the street and take you around every damn corner, but every now and then I get myself REALLY stuck, as in hours of wandering and using items that I didn't need to waste when I could have just done something really simple, then I check a walkthrough and kick myself for making such a fundamental mistake.

And I don't mean for things like puzzles, either, I actually enjoy them.

The "put the game down for a couple of months and take a breather" approach works here.

The only time I'd use a walkthrough while playing a game is if that game is addled with the kind of bugs and glitches that potentially make it literally impossible to progress further in if you do certain actions, yet enjoyable enough to not stop playing.

I've been in situations where I really enjoy playing it, but get stuck at one part that I just can't figure out. I simply just look it up. Why would I put a game down that I like to play and want to finish? I don't think it taints the experience for me at all. I don't have an obsessive satisfaction from using no walkthroughs. So what if the "take a breather" approach works? It doesn't mean it is a good approach if that is the game you want to continue playing. I don't usually have money enough to buy a lot of games that I can cycle through.
