Warp Records do-it-yourself posters: going to print posters

Recommended Posts

WARP RECORDS DO-IT-YOUR-SELF POSTERS

before I start wasting paper

are there any posters already that I could rebuild? Do you have hires scans or vector art I could use?

So far I have:

Aphex logo vector

Boc logo vector

ae logo (I will just type it in the futura font)

Boc, analord and tuss covers in ultrahigh res

I am still looking for clark hires scans and the "clark" font and the plaid logo

what else could I use?

I am thinking of just using the boc and aphex logo without anything else on 2 posters - maybe like the gray themed boc shirts with a nice dark gray or black background

I will post the posters as pdf before printing

the size is 910mm x 1287mm

I'm wondering what you're considering "ultra high res" - for the poster size you're going for, assuming you're not compromising on resolution (although depending on your output format, you could get away with half resolution), you're needing images that are 10800 pixels by 15300 pixels (@ 300 dpi/ppi) to theoretically fill the poster area with image. The vector logos are no problem, assuming they are pathed well enough so there are no rough edges on curves, etc.

Also, unless you have your own large format printer, you're looking at 10USD-15USD per square foot to print these... in your case, you're looking at a minimum of 120.00USD to print one out.

Also, the æ logo isn't Futura... it's Avant Garde (if you're wanting the "AE" logo used on Gantz Graf, or if you're writing out "autechre" like on EP7).

The only WARP posters I've seen (that weren't direct reproductions of the album covers) are:

Come To Daddy (has the "demon" screaming at the old lady scene from the video, with "Aphex Twin. Come To Daddy." written down the side in silver ink)

Music Has The Right To Children (metallic ink printing of an extended version of the album cover (landscape format)

Windowlicker (has a 3/4 body view of "Richard" from the EP cover)

There's probably others, but those are the only ones I can recall at the moment that aren't direct repros of the album covers (like the Geogaddi one).

there's an aphex twin 26 mixes for cash poster with images of rdj from different photos and albums. goddamn that was a sweet poster, wish i still had it. this thread is way too fanboyish for me though

Yes, I forgot about that one...

good point. Where are you getting these printed man? I remember at my old school we had the hookup for this kind of thing. It was really cheap, because they didn't make you pay for ink, it was free, just had to pay for, or supply your own, paper.

I made a block poster of the Untilted album art and have a framed print of Draft 7.30 art. If people want to see them I can take a picture

I'd love to see a picture, Marked x 0ne Icon.

I've been planning on making some of my own Warp t-shirts, so if you feel like sharing any of the vectors and logos you have, o00o, I'd love to have them myself.

I've also wanted to make my own Analord binder for a long time. I need to do that.

blockposters and a bit about making them

526200dscn1682.jpg

The glare is because it's a glass frame. This one is made from 2 pages, I just skewed the image slightly then split it to where it would print on two pages. I used a nice frame I had lying around which makes this one look really good (you can't see the seam at all) even though it's just a printed image on computer paper.

Original image: http://www.cubeuploa...30front1024.jpg

The original isn't huge or vector, but it worked well and the quality is great as long as your face isn't right up next to it (which it never is). So basically I recommend that if your image is around this quality or less, keep it to 2 pages or less.

c5200dscn1681re.jpg

This one was just a day project, and it kind of shows with more seams and a bit of wrinkling because of the glue I used. But it's a lot larger, 10 sheets large. So I cropped the Untilted cover and ran it through a program called Rasterbator (google it) which basically turns the image into a bunch of colored dots. It's a cool effect if that's what you're going for but I don't recommend thison an image that you want to turn out a perfect replica (the Draft logo would look bad using this, too much detail). I basically just cut the sheets to size, lined everything up and glued them all onto a large piece of paper. Hang it as a banner, and it's great to look at at a distance. Use this method if you want some large decor, something farther away where quality isn't as important.

I found these 120mb jpgs of covers in flac torrents I assume they will do but I also have some covers here of course to scan

I will put them all together later and make a list of what I got so far. maybe we can share these or others can add the missing ones (I don't have much ae and clark stuff)

I assume the boc posters are on the wiki and some of them are on the designers republic page. have you seen the others online? just to have some hint about the design they use

I have the BoC, CTD, and WL ones - unfortunately I don't have access to a scanner large enough, and unfortunately don't have the time to stitch it back together in Photoshop.

If you have the time to scan the parts I can do the photoshop-work that is no problem but it will be difficult to scan it with the scanner open and still receive a sufficient result

The posters are just for personal use. It would be different if he were selling them. I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but I could be wrong.

I've probably got a spare Windowlicker one I could send you (I gave a whole bunch away in '99 as part of a Windowlicker/Sire Records promotion, with CTD stickers and a few of those posters I mentioned, and round Windowlicker stickers (like the cover).

I dunno if you'd want to hang the Windowlicker poster up... and the font used on it appears to be a custom-made font (same as the EP).

What does it look like? Is it the Richard with tits one with a handwritten font similar to the druqks promotion cards?

How does the BoC one look? Is it just album artwork used as poster?

does it look something like this: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=76375

Windowlicker

I also found this: Geogaddi!

Yes, it's the one in the first link. Small poster.

The CTD one is a still from the video (the demon screaming at the old woman) with silver lettering down the left side (I just got it out to look at it) and it says APHEX TWIN. Come To Daddy.

The MHTRTC one is like this, but has text on it and is printed with silver ink:

Boc-wallpaper-03.jpg

LOL, my design work from the contest is in there too!:

BOC-photo-29.jpg

The Geogaddi poster is much larger than that I recall, but I'll have to dig that out.

Oh man, I'd love to get some of those come to daddy stickers and windowlicker stickers; i saw a come to daddy sticker of richard's face superimposed on a little kid, when i went on an excursion to a record store when i was thirteen and wanted it ever since.
