New iPod Nanos have a video camera and FM Tuner built in, available now 8GB 149USD, 16GB 179USD.

Say goodbye, 256mb MP3 player!

Is that really the only reason you want an ipod? Not for mp3s, but for a fucking radio? I mean, can't you just buy a radio for like 5 dollars?

No, don't be silly - I've always wanted an iPod because I prefer the UI/design to 99% of the other MP3 players out there and I primarily listen to the radio, but sometimes want to listen to my own music - having both is a convenient option. But, in reading over this on Apple's website, while it does have some neat features for the radio bit (like iTunes tagging), I'm dismayed at the fact they only put the camera in the Nano, and not the Touch, same with the FM tuner. I'd much rather have a Touch for all the other things it can do, but yet again, I can't have a fucking radio in the iPod I want, Apple. I guess I'll wait for the Touch to finally incorporate the radio feature in the next iteration (yes, I know I could do netradio with wi-fi on the touch, but I'd have to be near a wi-fi at all times, and on the bus, that's really not practical).

npr has a podcast

i thought the whole point of getting an ipod was so you'd never have to listen to the radio again. i've never understood why having a tuner in an ipod was so important to people. or video capabilities. there's probably a camera in your phone, do you need another one?

I'm an old fart, so I can't be arsed with podcasts, and it's not up to the minute like the NPR livestream is.

As for why you'd want a camera in your MP3 player/phone - convergence - not having to carry around multiple devices all the time. Even an old fart like me sees the benefit in that.

i bought an iriver (FM nothing new there) .. you know so i could listen music without pissing about in itunes ... when i get a new phone if the recording quality is high enough i'll fuck the mp3 player off ... convergence baby ..

yeah, i had an awesome iriver back in the day, 40Gb, none of this itunes wank and it also had an FM tuner. and that was like 5 years ago. apple's lagging behind...

my iriver doesn't work anymore though, i got vodka jelly in all its ports and it doesn't connect to any computer anymore lol

250$ for 160 gigs is where it's at.

With the ease of getting podcasts off Itunes there's basically no need for an FM tuner, unless you need Live Radio which I think Joyrex is the exception to the rule.

Does anyone use these for anything other than music? I tried watching video but it just gave me a headache.

This is great!  Now when I plug my iPod into the FM broadcaster in my car, my iPod can tune into itself, creating a symphony of ear-piercing feedback.

I agree with the radio thing, more convenient than getting podcasts. The the camera? It's a crappy video only camera, it doesn't even take still pictures (which is what I'd want in a portable device like the ipod). And it is completely unnecessary because mine and most peoples phones take pictures and videos already, don't need another device to do it unless it took really great/better quality pictures (which it doesnt)

My old iRiver had FM Radio. We're you waiting specifically for an iPod to have this?

Fucking iRiver, I had one of those. It was pretty great but there was no point in having an fm radio since I lived in Montreal, the land of all shit radio.

True edit for real.

My iRiver was great. To be honest I think the newest Creative Zen's trump all MP3 players right now. Love having the SD slot, they're well built, drag and drop music transfer, everything I want really.

I had a Sony MP3 player NWA something. It had a terrible battery, slow as all hell and was a shoddy build. Seriously, fuck Sony, for the last few years they've been fail after fail. And fuck Vaio's, they wrestle Dell for shittiest laptop champion.

I've got a Zen X-Fi and it has some frustrating issues. It crashes once every few days; To put music on it I always have to resort to Winamp or some other app because of it's strange filesystem; And using the button controls is really slow.

EDIT: Oh there's an X-Fi 2. Looks sweet!

Yeah! My friend got an X-Fi and I got the regular Zen, the X-Fi sounds amazing but the battery is nowhere near as good. Also it doesn't have the album of the day feature I don't think, which isn't a deal breaker but is a cool addition. I'll have to keep my eye on the X-Fi 2, a fucking cab driver stole my Zen! (maybe)

my Creative Zen Vision M is a fucking beast! love it. had it for years now and dropped it/skidded it along the ground and apart from a few minor cosmetic dings its still kicking ass! 60gigs of tunes. if it died Id buy a new one. hate the look of Ipods, and that you have to use faggy Itunes.

and yes it does have an FM radio that I use maybe once every 6-9 months for 5 minutes.

apple mindset can't be unlocked cause it's held in place by their marketing DRM .. so i usually don't bother .. used to live with an apple acolyte .. trust me ... worse than hippies or vegans ...

I'm an iPod stalwart for my sins, but fuck all this multimedia wankery, I just want fucking memory! Just give me an iPod with 250gb+ and I'll give you my soul. I don't care if it's the size of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
