i genuinely detest hipsters. soulless and boring

see, what's seriously annoying about them all is that inside of their little groups they're so awesome and wonderful. and they make you feel this unconscious self loathing for not fitting into their fashion. in reality though, as soon as you've penetrated their group you are to find that there is nothing there, just an empty black hole in which petty chatter and zombie egotism roams. so fuck them

i would say all of my friends are hip, but not a single one of them is a hipster. love thy neighbor though

same can be said about any group of people no matter what lifestyle they're into... maybe everyone seems to be pinpointing these hipsters because there is so many of them? they don't bother me at all... anyone can appear soulless to the watmm massive i guess!

also vamos, why do you feel "self loathing for not fitting into their fashion"? seems like you wanted to be a part of this but couldn't pull it off or something. i'm sorry if it seems like i'm picking on you, i'm not at all. i'm actually talking to the watmm collective... actually scratch that... i don't give a shit!

you are both incorrect. hipsters are actually responsible for the death of western civilization.

previous cultural generations may have been dorky or whatever, but at least they were sincere and authentic. hipsterdom is all about irony. once everything is ironic and sarcastic, nothing has any meaning. everything is pointless. people are already making and continue to make important life long decisions based purely on irony. and there is no where else for anything to go after this. it leads to a dead end across all spectrums. hipsters have destroyed everything that people genuinely enjoy, anything old or nostalgic. once you realize the implications of what's actually going on here, you'll get scared. and there's nothing anyone can do.

Well said. Granted the label "hipster" is subjective, but if you are offended, then I doubt you are on, because hipsters lack emotions.

There have always been attention seekers in scenes and subcultures, and fads in general, but the entire "hipster" trend is disturbing because they are specifically proud of not caring. Their ethos is apathy and ego. They are a waste byproduct of postmodern society.

i know for a fact id prefer to hang around with hipsters(cant speak for the american version) than you idiots with your shitty judgemental opinions. ''hipsters have destroyed everything that people enjoy'' , what rot, if you enjoy something you enjoy it, just because you are too embarrased to like something a 'hipster' also likes because you need to be edgey and anti-trend, it doesnt mean all other normal people cant just get on with it. i bet you are both about 17 too.

yes

The first time I encountered the hipster scarf was at a hockey game last year, some guy walking up to his seat had a thin little white one around his neck- at Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit even! The guy next to me and I both looked at him, then at each other and started laughing.

On another note, Vladislav Delay and Moritz Von Oswald were both wearing them in their Wire cover stories, but they pull it off somehow...

anybody who complains about people complaining about Hipsters are either immersed in the hipster subculture themselves or do not live in heavily populated metropolitan areas littered with fucking hipsters and thus have no fucking clue what people mean by hipsters.

i'm in L.A... most my friends in the pasadena area are so called "hipsters", i have friends in riverside as well that are "hipsters" and they are nice people!

BUT... i have come across the ones that are assholes, but i don't associate that with them being hipsters... i just think they're assholes... i've come across people like this and the same attitude that weren't hipsters (i.e. ravers, hip hoppers, jocks, goths, IDMers, normal people... and those short ones that be walkin' around... oh yeah... MIDGETS)!

just to clarify... i do dress a little like these people, but i don't go out much since i do have a family and hang out with my sons and wife all the time not having much time for anything else!

I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, possibly the most hipster infested area outside of Portland, Oregon maybe. Yes they are usually vapid people, yes they are usually boring or uninteresting, yes their parties are usually lame. That said, it's rare but I have met some cool people and even friends that would normally be lumped into the hipster category on how they dress. Be wary, but don't always judge a book by its cover is the lesson here I guess.

And I hate hardcore hipsters as much as the next guy, possibly even more since I am an outsider living in their world, but responsible for ruining culture? Really? There have been plenty of equally atrocious fads before this, I think you are overreacting a little bit. Anyways, I may live in hipster hell, but I love my neighborhood and have met some of my best friends here. You just need a good bullshit radar to tell who's legit and who's not.

I'll end this with an invite to a party I got which is a serious hipster lol. THESE are the type of hipsters you want to avoid with a passion.

"This Saturday, you are invited to:

Nineteen Thirty Three

Part I : The Brewery

Explore the depths of a 19th century fortress of ancient brick and steel.

Lady Circus will inhabit this industrial cathedral with continuous cabaret

acts and spontaneous aerial stunts. The nickel cabaret is a cheap and

lovely stage where the bravest among you may be called upon to perform

that unknown talent for simple rewards of liquor and false promises of

love. As the night begins, the star is you.

Part II : The Ferry

Explore three levels of music and performance, drinks and a dozen hidden

nooks on the now infamous Lost Ferry boat. Featuring: The Rude Mechanical

Orchestra, the all female accordion band Main Squeeze, the Vintage DJ

playing retro tracks from big-band jazz to throw-down swing building to

late night lo-fi techno from d_Juice and Zemi 17. More than anything,

this night is a celebration of the hobo, with dj's Jon Margulies, Haj,

Atom, Hobotrail, Future Ben, As Is and Shakey spinning East to West coast

interpretations of Hobo-Tech.

Many of us have woken up to find out that we've become high-tech hobos:

where the original hobos physically dropped out of society and rode the

rail system, we've mentally dropped out, traded train tracks for dance

tracks, and given up on the plans and patrons that were supposed to

provide us security. Hobotech music is depression era techno -

contemporary music that nods to a forgotten America, celebrating

half-smoked cigars and conversations over the fire barrel.

Plus an amplified menagerie of art and mischief from the fire starter

Sandhi Ferreira, incongruous juxtapositions from Dr. Flummox and her band

of outlaw musicians and a massive scale video art installation by

Sebastian Patane Masuelli completing the epic setting with forgotten

images from a familiar time. Arrive early for free Dark & Stormy

cocktails, rum soaked watermelon and cheap eats.

$15 for those in rag-tag formal wear...

(think moth eaten dresses and dusty tuxedos), $20 otherwise.
