The pilot is basically a feature length film. I think the pilot is possibly the best part. For me, the 2nd season goes steeply downhill, with the great exception of a few episodes. It seems like David Lynch became a bit distant from the project as it progressed. He directs a few episodes here and there. The first and last episodes of the 2nd season are the best ones though. The whole series ends with a major mind-fuck. Fire Walk With Me is basically a prequel.

Unfortunately for me, the order I saw it in was:

FWWM

Pilot

5 or 6 episodes hand picked by a friend of mine (including the last)

...then (a couple years later)...

Pilot

Whole series (from beginning to end this time)

FWWM

Actually, I think the whole thing somehow still works if you were like me and watched FWWM first. It's a bit less of a mystery though, so I don't reccomend it.

Correct. Lynch was busy directing Wild at Heart when the second season was being made and basically it seems that ABC let pretty much anyone direct an episode. I mean, even Diane Keaton directed an episode...........................

But as jefferoo says, the second season is pretty much downhill. It starts out just awesome but then it goes absolutely nowhere until Lynch gets in the chair for the last episode.

I liked the 2nd season. There were a few LOLOLOL moments (seriously, not just lol, but what I did over there), but I found it quaint or something. Loved every minute of it, despite it's ridiculousness.

If you watch the episode where they first meet.. somewhere in there, Cooper sees her at the hotel while drinking coffee at a table and she comes over and they start talking. After the obviously huge amount of flirting they abruptly cut it to an unrelated scene. I'm not sure if it was intentional but it left a lot to the imagination as to what happened after that rendezvous.

Madchen Amick (Shelly) was and still is 300x hotter.

a lot of it seems unintentionally cheesy to me., one of the only david lynch things i've never been able to get into because of that. it seems to be a lot more dated than anything else he's done. I just bought the VHS series set at a garage sale so ill probably get around to watching it at some point
