awepittance
fun fact: after Rupture interviewed iranian electronic artist Sote, he then went on to do an album about a haunted hotel in Iran which he compared to the Caretaker but in actuality it sounds like it was hugely inspired by Sote's Persian Electronic Music and Dastgaah records. Nothing wrong with being inspired, just a shame he didn't give the credit where it was due. (same concept, in Dubai though) Yeah that's Nettle, another project I honestly know little about. I stopped regularly following his blog regularly years ago, really only paying attention to his mixes and that vst he help develop. Awepittance, I swear your ears are permanently glued to the ground when it comes to a lot of behind-the-scenes tidbits I'd otherwise never be aware of. I knew Sote was on RLR and had that Warp release, now I see his work simply as Ata Ebtekar has been name-checked by DJ /rupture and used in one of his WFMU mixes. The inspiration makes sense after previewing the Nettle album. He use to find middle eastern/latin american sample sources from major hip-hop songs and post them on his blog - not in a critical manner, just pure trainspotting. He seems to listen to such an huge amount of music that I can very much see him blatantly imitating an artist without mentioning them as an inspiration. Always wary of liberal uses of samples or very closely imitated sounds being used without acknowledgement within "original" compositions. It's become quite a trend in electronic music lately.
