a cat is the only thing that could escape one of those things.. besides S.W., of course.

No, it fucking didn't ESCAPE the alien. it sat in a fucking cage-thing whatever the fuck it is until Weaver came back to pick it up. Not to mention she left the damn cat RIGHT NEXT TO THE GODDAMN ALIEN AND NOTHING HAPPENED.

no fuck you,

i like my space horror movies WITHOUT FUCKING UNHARMED CATS

maybe i would have, maybe, just maybe would I have let it go if the cat was brutally decapitated or torn in half by the Alien when it walks by the caged cat, but the fucking alien LEAVES IT ALONE

WTF IS WRONG WITH THE FILM WORLD jesus christ why is an animal fucking not allowed to die?

i swear to god if the cat was killed in that movie it probably would have been ranked in the top 10 shocking horror movie scenes on Bravo special.

fuck that cat, fuck that cat, fuck this movie, and fuck that cat.

Its name is Jones.

Hey a rottweiler gets ripped open in the 3rd one.. so everything works out.

Not if you watch the Director's Cut :cisfor:

I don't give a shit what the faggot cat's name is. It shouldn't have been in the movie, it should have fucking died. None of this shit happen. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING ruins a movie more for me when the cute asshole animals somehow get away from an unstoppable murder machine.

how are you just now watching this? what is wrong with you?

you know awepittance, alex jones said he thought Alien was garbage because of the cat as well. who's side are you on?

it doesnt kill the cat cause it doesnt consider it a worthy opponent. the alien is hunting for sport and the cat... oh wait thats predator

i can never decide which is better Alien or Aliens. Cause alien is one of the greatest pieces of atmospheric filming of all time, great acting and payoff. But Aliens is so bad ass and everything about hollywood done completely right. Ahhhh they're both so perfect.

exactly...that shit would fly in Predator, but the only explanation i could figure was that they killed so they could use the bodies as pods for the offspring or whatever

The first 30 min of Alien was brilliant. I love when movies slowly pace themselves, absorbing the increasingly disturbing atmosphere....the scenes when they investigate the derelict ship and the pod rooms was fucking awesome.

but still, theres a cat in the movie.

what? im obviously on the side that alien is a masterpiece of a film! Alex jones also thought Watchmen was Alan Moore worshipping the New world order and that the ending was about how the new world order will save us

I love alien for the look of the computers. Like the computers in star wars they have this 70's arp 2500 look. The glowing white buttons. The world needs more glowing white buttons

I saw Alien at the Imax a few years ago

the cat's in all of what, 2 scenes?

I remember his name was jones but that's about it

no he is in just about every scene where someone dies, or is on the run, or whatever the fuck.

if someone can direct me to a scholarly essay explaining the merits of the cat in Alien, I will make a public apology and rescind my accusations.

Ok, so the main theme IMO that this movie presents is “what does it mean to be human?” The corollary to this question is then: “what does it mean to be alien?” The quick answer would be, “well, something that’s not human,” however in this film the answer appears to be different. To find the answer you have to identify the contraries in the film. The obvious one is human (Ripley) vs the Alien; however there is a more complicated contrary at work: the cat vs. Ash. While this is not a direct contrary, they both affect the main coflict. This creates a sort of human-nonhuman square, with Ripley and Ash on the human(like) side, and the cat and the Alien on the nonhuman side.

To find what it means to be truly human, the plot sets up Ripley to be put through tests to see if she can truly “understand”, or in the context of the film, merely just survive. You must fully understand the nonhuman in order to defeat it, and you must leave something of yourself behind in order to move on. (in the film, to escape the Nostromo) Ripley denies, or kills, the other human, Ash, who then betrays his own position as a human (and as a force of good), and is then revealed to be in fact, nonhuman. The cat, opposite Ash on the square, is most certainly nonhuman, however takes on the position of companion to Ripley only after Ash has been destroyed. Ripley dispels the evil part of the collective human side (Ash) and takes on the nonhuman (the cat) in order to fully succeed against the ultimate evil and the ultimate nonhuman: the Alien.

Yeah that Cat is definetly humanlike and the Alien has arms and legs. But the cat and the Alien have a tail. They are all humanlike is just doesn't work Doctor.

STFU

Well, this is what it is - my theory that I have, that is to say, which is mine, is mine
