There is a scene, I think it's in the first season of TNG, where aliens have infiltrated starfleet and Riker and Picard blow a guys head up really graphically. In that same episode Riker eats a bowl of grubs.

I never realized it as a kid, but as I rewatch the show, I was surprised at how much foreshadowing there was leading up to the whole Starfleet infiltration stuff. The first seasons of TNG are stronger than I remembered.
