i've never been as big a fan of a band as i was of radiohead in the years following ok computer.

same, except i wasn't into them until around 2006, and i pretty much became obsessed.

but i like their other stuff a ton. when in rainbows was released i listened to it immediately through several times in a row. since the hype from that one died down a bit i've really, really cooled on them. if their next album is good though i'm sure i'll fall back into it.

something they did on this tour... something almost cageian, was they sampled radio stuff earlier in the day on the tourbus, and then would use it at the performance that night. imagine my surprise when i heard the marian finucane show in the middle of 'the national anthem', lol.

uh, they've been doing that since ok computer. climbing up the walls live features radio samples and the national anthem has been performed for what, nine years now so not really exclusive to this last tour.

still cool though.

radiohead are a much better guitar band than blips and bloops band though.

ah i didn't watch the video.

their best live recording is actually off that tour, in berlin on july 4th. there's a soundboard of that floating around that has the best everything in its right place, dollars and cents, kid a, and a few other songs.

this recieved much hate on alt.music.radiohead but i liked it a lot. particularly the early, unmastered version (of a lot of unmastered HTTT leaked, to much controversy)

it's been a long time since i heard but i seem to remember liking some other early versions more too (eg the unmastered version of 'sit down stand up' was a bit rougher and glitchier)

i knew about them in the past, but didn't get into them until ok computer came out. really got into them around kid a and amnesiac. didn't pay much attention to hail to the thief. found in rainbows to be ok. i liked thome york's eraser album.

radiohead are fine... i like them, but like i said earlier, they are nowhere near a favorite band of mine!

i like this specific version of how to disappear far, far more than the final recorded version. i was so disappointed when they got rid of the ringing infinite guitar sound and replaced it with strings. the rhodes keyboard solo at the end is fantastic as well.

aw man, how good is the version of Kid A from that show!!

radiohead is a test band. they have fit into that slot in the last decade and a half of being a mainstream act that understands (somewhat) and flirts with experimentation, this time around being their use of some electronics. So many radiohead fans I've met found the band early in their own musical listening experience and picked one of two paths afterwards. If they could deal with the electronic experimentation and delve into more complex and interesting music, they passed the test. they gained insight into the other artists that do the same things Radiohead tries to do, but either better, more defined or earlier. This puts the band in perspective, which is really important given the enormous amount of hype that surrounds them, leaving radiohead as a fond memory in someone's musical taste development career. If they fail the test, they listen to regressive bands like coldplay or animal collective that don't do as good a job IMO as Radiohead/Godrich do.

When I finally got around to making my way through their releases, I was too far in IDM's asshole to pull myself out and listen without going: "well here's where afx/ae/sp/boc can do better without all the whining and carry on."

with that said I hate neither Radiohead nor coldplay nor animal collective. but i like them in that order.

I don't mind radiohead. I remember watching the video for "Creep" on Muchmusic way back when they played it as a sneak preview (oh for the days of payola) and saying to myself that this track will be huge. Sure enough...

Anyways yeah they have some great songs, and some good albums. I actually really like in rainbows, far more than Kid A/Amnesiac.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

interesting. the way i see it is, they can still write good pop songs, and pretty much anyone who can write a pop song isn't going to throw it all away in the name of pure experimentation. at least to me, i'd much rather write a 'proper' song than something that is just a bunch of glitchy noises or whatever.

I'd consider myself a Radiohead fan. But I could see why people hate them actually. Thom does talk an aweful lot of shite.

I like some of it. Nice to see that they evolved from pablo honey into something less easy to digest and are still doing well with it. It's their general fanbase I can't stand. Sniveling pretentious fucktards. It's like that with alot of artists tho. Gotta separate myself from it and not let annoying hipsters that pick up on the surface noise of everything they come into contact with ruin it for me.

and, fuck Radiohead.

Bunch 'o pussies. I like my rock music to have testes.

*ducks*

Oh, I've never seen Radiohead as a Rock Band.

Yeah, I meant like Rock Music in the more traditional way. Like Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Stones and such Groups.

If I had to stick Radiohead in a Genre it would be more like Avantgarde.

if anything i'd say they're closer to being a prog band than traditional rock. maybe only ok computer, but still when you think about it, that's a pretty prog album.

I don't think it's really fair to label any kind of music as being "x" or "y"

Me neither.

I always kinda put them into a Alt. Rock genre, maybe boardeline electronic. Just cause Kid A and Amnesiac are may favorites.

If you ever feel like theres too much violence in the world, read the comments on a Radiohead youtube video. Violence level seems about right then.

I wasnt' aware that it was cool to hate Radiohead, however not surprised since so many things considered cool nowadays are infact crap.

Radiohead was what really got me into investigating new music, since 1998 when I first listened to Ok Computer.

Here's some one of their new songs

foods in the tone of 'go to the fuckin store'

patayda chips

apple cracker thangies

carrots in brown paper bag
