How long have you been a MM?

Browsing around some of the peoples stuff on the forum and some of its fucking brilliant.

So I was wondering how long have you been making music?

For myself its been just over a year now. Not really a contineous year though, I had the fucking leaving cert.

Which is like GCSE's or the SAT's (theyre the only two equivalent I know).

Started in 2005. Didn't get my dream studio pieced together until early 2009. Didn't start making music every hour I wasn't at work until two weeks ago.

been messing about with moosic since I was 14 using Octamed on an Amiga. I'm now 32 so I guess that's 18 odd years....Jesus.

Hmm, started tracking around 96 or 97. Maybe a bit earlier. Played the guitar when I was 10.

I guess I should clarify:

I was classically trained on piano, bassoon and viola since I was 7 and even went to university for bassoon performance.

my music making has been extremely patchy for the last 5 years or so due to other commitments with work, living with girlfriends, lack of space and lack of drive. years ago I'd knock out two tracks or more in a day, but these days I'm lucky if a get something finished in two weeks... on the plus side, I've got more money now I'm older so have got some nice gear. which I don't use nearly as often as I should.

Started writing tracks when I was 13, so around 10 years.

since whenever 'Music' was released on the ps1.

with jangly guitars - 89 ish

with droney guitars and pedals - 92 ish

electronic music... around - 93/94 ish

with a computer - 2004

sometime around 2001/2002

2003 was about when i started making things that weren't just 20 second jingles

still don't really know what i'm doing

Played the drums since I was like 8. Started making electronic stuff when I was 15 or 16, so like 11-12 years now. I feel kind of sad, cause you would think I would be happier with my stuff as long as I've been at it,. I've never really had any clear goals other than making stuff I like to listen to though...

late 2005, a friend introduced me to ableton live.

had a band around 2003 i think hmmm...

i played some instruments in school when i was younger- percussion and trumpets... but i didnt start experimenting with music of my own, like recording and writing and stuff, until like '99... so 10 years we'll say. yow

started taking piano lessons when i was 5 years old. studied classical piano until high school. played jazz keys through high school. said fuck jazz and got into electronic music after high school. i'm 21 now so i'd say that i've been "seriously" composing and producing electronic music for about 3 years.

as for me, i had guitar lessons when i was 6, then dropped it for a while, then taught myself again when i was 10 (i'm 25 now). started making electronic music when i picked up the august 1996 issue of pc format, which had FT2 and a bunch of awesome tracker music on the cover disc (including the aforementioned jesus on e).

about 8 or 9 years i think. i started in high school but i don't remember what year exactly.

just about three years now, off and on.

started around 92/93 with an amiga running octamed and a sampler-interface dongle thingamajig...

and since I can't edit the other post: here comes a double. My music making has been very on and off though, lately just off due to not having any time for it :(

the question is where to draw the line. when i was like 4 years old i was sometimes babysat by commodore 64 with musics program. nice ladysitter helped me make a tite cassette of my musics. later, the family got an ad-lib soundcard (just midi) and i had a blast making noise with that. always loved messing with wav editiors, and i had some cheesy programs since forever. that's all preamble, though.... i didn't get seriously into it until i was a bit older. i'd say i really got going in high school, whih was about ten years ago.
