Flavor flav is ridiculous now, but he was pretty essential to Public Enemy back in the day. There was so much seriousness in that group that his mad jester hype man persona was a good counterbalance. He was the antithesis of Professor Griff, and I guess they used to butt heads a lot.

Regarding the Bomb Squad - at their peak I don't think anyone's matched them since. Also worth checking out Ice Cube's first album just for their production.

disagreed. while PE are good, chuck's style is different to wu. while chuck was more about political messages and lyrics, wu were more focused with complex rapping styles, and less on lyrics.

this is all true, but rapping is only one element. That's what bugs me about rap. People seem to only ever discuss the rappers and raps themselves, not the actual music as a whole, which is done in every other musical genre with lyrics. if you took out all the music you'd just have poetry about pussy and being cool. PE has much more interesting music.
