ive always wondered how these guys get such great acoustic drum sounds, and for some reason i just dont see richard hovering over drum sets in music shops with their little samplers. maybe...you could just rent out a music shop for a night with a professional drum tuner and probably sample an entire drum shop in a night. i suppose theres tons of ways to get acoustic drum sounds, i dunno. what do you think? sample/loop packs?

obviously they synthesize a lot of their drums, im talking acoustic drums here. especially vibert, hes like half or more acoustic, and i doubt they synthesize acoustic drum sounds. squarepusher records himself playing drums

side question: what do you use for acoustic drum sounds?

:sorcerer:

acoustic drums and afx - not really. vibert - maybe a little more so, but most of the acoustic drums in vibert's tunes are from sampled drum loops from records and stuff.

This is also majorly true for Squarepusher as well. He's mostly classic drum breaks. He does play drums on tracks tho, especially later in his career.

for some reason, i think afx owns a drum set (he can afford a thousand after all). i can imagine him making various samples of each element, kick, snare etc., making his own afx trademark acoustic drum pack in his studio. or even smash the snare and record it with room reverb in a specific goal, for a particular track or something. i'd do so if i were him anyway :spiteful:

Beep street is looped and recut from a pretty well known drum lick, I've got the original around somewhere.

RDJ is also notorious to lie 90% of the time in interviews. Which in my opinion started a trend of IDM musicians saying whatever they thought sounded interesting to the press. I'm sure there's quite a few artists who use software and heavily tweaked 3rd party samples 99% of the time but in interviews they say they only use hardware "DSP" and sample their grandmother on the toilet for all their percussion hits.
