The trick is to NOT skip forward in tracks, but let your brain be fucked by itself.

Hah I don't understand your logic. But okay.

The logic is that the brain processes repeated patterns pretty strange and you discover new patterns. Fractals etc.

I'm trying to actually make songs which change quite a bit.

But they tend to be so repetitive. It's a bit annoying.

Should I perhaps study music theory or what? Help me.

Listen to music that is not beat driven and repetitive.

Whoa whoa whoa wait, stop there, just remember that in certain parts of the world it is still actually illegal to listen to repetitive beats. I'd suggest you consult a solicitor before taking this advice.

I'm cool with beats as long as they don't loop over and over and over.

There's nothing wrong with beats that change every so often.

Especially beats with wicked drum pats. :music:

I would say don't think too hard about it.

Just clear off the tune down to the beat and then using the same sounds try and make an intro, chorus section, alternate part, etc.

Then unmute the rest or take it out of loop and hear how it goes with the original parts. Just putting in this extra effort will lead you to some kinda reward.

The beat and same sounds will hold it together so it sounds like the same song but you can get more adventurous as try other things but that's beside the point right now.

You'll and your fills, pull things in and out as usual at a later stage

For polish, transpose, move some notes around, change notes in transition parts (going from one section to another), etc.

It may be easiest to keep your number of drums and synths/sound sources well down so you can focus on the arrangement first, then bring back the rest.

That is very true.

I'm starting to arrange and always tweak last now.

Eh, your tracks are probably repetitive because you haven't had time to really master the program. I don't mean to say this in a condescending way, mind you. I know my tracks were repetitive (and sometimes reeked of that plasticy Sytrus sound that lingers in all n00by songs made with the program) when I had only been using it for 5 months.

what do you mean by this?

I know a little of music theory. But I find it more fun to take parts of it and make up my own and ram them together.
