Also, regarding the brief ieafs-squee back & forth: whoever views laptop performances as some kind of venue for gay faux-cultured restrained shit or, conversely, as unable to support an entertaining display are fucking (read: fundamentally) wrong. Not implying you subscribe to any of the above types, ieafs, maybe you just haven't seen a good laptop show or you live under a rock or something. As Squee said, even if you're not going to do shit (unlike the likes of Squarepusher or u-Ziq or Xanopticon who fucking ROCK what are, at their core, laptop sets), you might as well at least spaz out or be your own fucking hypeman or something. Anything less is just, at least to me, either pretentiousness or just being a shy pussy or something. Especially today, with shit such as The Finger out, and cheap miniKP's and stuff like that, you don't have to be fucking Autechre to be able to add some improvisational dimension to your music.

As for laptop showmanship.....

i like when RDJ or Autechre do weird shit while playing.

RDJ sits on the floor, lays down on the floor, dips down and pops up while RDJing...he is generally

just strange and unusual when he plays, with fucked videos or twisted dancers.

Autechre boys usually do a bit of head nodding and bouncing to their beats

and they are all over the place on their gear, they like to hide behind their

gear and act coy... it's cute, lol.

i say ...if your not going to jump around and freak your shit then at least do

something weird and off the normal. it bothers me to see performers just sit at a table, lifeless and frozen.
