Christ & Tycho

I don't see these guys mentioned much in the forum... what do you think of them and their releases compared to other IDM artists?

yeah I hear that Tycho rips off BoC, but I can't stop listening to Tycho's Sunshine Projector - such a good album.

Have you heard teh BOC? If not, you should have checked then out first

Both Tycho and Christ. make their own unique sounds. Saying they are blatantly emulating BoC is just being lazy.

Neither of these guys do much for me, really. Decent enough stuff, but not interesting enough to keep listening.

i used to like christ a lot more before, although his new record is really good. tycho just sounds generic and derivative to me. he wears his influences on his sleeve, musically and visually. not that there's anything wrong with that.

to be honest, i used to enjoy his visual style but i have grown really tired of it. i feel like it's an amalgamation of a lot of popular graphic design trends throughout the recent years with this forced notion of nostalgia. i also think this is the second time i have ripped on his work. haters.

im gonna save my breath and not defend either artist (because the BoC cult is composed primarily of idiots), but they indeed make good tunes.

The guy behind Christ worked with boc during the Twoism-era

ps Coastal Brake, while not necessarily of a groundbreakin nature, is a damn pretty tune to chill to

he certainly is. he is a very talented guy. very. he just isnt original at all. they say the key to creativity is hiding your sources. he doesnt even try. but i think he is a super talented dude.

I like Blue Shift Emissions alot. Cordate is a brilliant track. His other stuff is pretty good too.

Never really listened to anything by Tycho but Christ has some nice tunes. I'd recommend 'Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle' and if you can find his Peel Session it's pretty awesome.

Every Christ. album has at least a few stellar tracks. Check out Odyssey 31 off his latest album, or Happyfour Twenty off Blue Shift Emissions. If you want to start with one album, I'd recommend Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle since it is consistently great, and has some of his best work (MK Naomi is definitely a standout here).

i definitely enjoy both artists, but haven't listened to tycho much since seeing him live a few months. he basically just hit play on his laptop and tweaked a (reverb?) knob to the beat. shigeto and cvj's performances made it well worth the trip though.
