i definitely enjoy both artists, but haven't listened to tycho much since seeing him live a few months. he basically just hit play on his laptop and tweaked a (reverb?) knob to the beat. shigeto and cvj's performances made it well worth the trip though.

fuck yeah shigeto is a lot of fun!! i saw him with a lot of the moodgadget roster down in baltimore...great great time.

Charles Trees is a hilarious guy btw...he kept yelling the strangest things on the downbeat in his tracks.

i used to like christ a lot more before, although his new record is really good. tycho just sounds generic and derivative to me. he wears his influences on his sleeve, musically and visually. not that there's anything wrong with that.

he's a good (visual) artist...

he certainly is. he is a very talented guy. very. he just isnt original at all. they say the key to creativity is hiding your sources. he doesnt even try. but i think he is a super talented dude.

He's like the Tarantino of IDM. Talented, puts out quality product, sticks to one formula, and not even remotely original.

Christ is a talented guy, if not super-consistent. I'd say stuff like Cordate and Lazy Daisy Meadow stand up to Boc's finest moments to some degree. Plus I can forgive him for sounding like them seeing as though he was present when they were forging that trademark sound. But Tycho has never held my interest at all.

yeah, he played with a ton of energy and was a blast to watch. playin the drums and tweakin effects/samples at the same time is no easy task.. and he is an amazingly talented drummer to boot. he also had some gorgeous visuals to go along with the music.

Le Poisson Rouge in NYC couldn't have been a better venue for that show.

i'm a huge fan of both christ. and tycho. i've seen tycho live a bunch of times, and i agree that he really doesn't do thaaat much other than 'hit play stare at laptop' which is kind of disappointing in a way but it's still great to experience the music live. also the last time i saw him he had some really professional live visuals going on, which really added to the overall experience. i haven't seen live visuals that good in a long time. his music is also great to listen to in the summer while biking, or doing chores or something like that. i can see how a lot of people would find it boring or a rip-off but i do enjoy it quite a bit. there have been plenty of times where i'm tanning in the sun and drinking while just taking in the sun and listening to tycho. i'm not really impressed with coastal break, and am worried i won't like his new album because it seems like he's going in more of a dance/club direction, that and i really dislike guitars

i'm also really disappointed with christ.'s latest album. i was so hyped up for it, and for me a lot of songs just felt flat. i don't know what it is. i think he either used a live drummer, or changed something up because a lot of the songs felt off to me. i only really enjoyed event horizon leads the view and i think one other one i can't remember the name of. plus it has the worst cover art ever, wow did he drop the ball with that one heh. i still believe blue shift emissions is the best album he's done as well as the bike ep. happyfour twenty and cordate, and bike are some of my favourite songs, and was disappointed he didn't continue with that kind of style, i found it groundbreaking in a way and just expanding, i can't explain it, hopefully he'll come back to it in the future

- i just found this forum out, but ive been a fan of IDM for a long while now :P

- are there any other IDM/electronic forums I should know of? :P

theres http://www.idmforums.com but they aren't really that great. the quality of discussion isn't at the caliber it is at watmm and there are way too many low content posts, although i guess you could also probably say the same thing here :trashbear:

Christ has to find a new label. Maybe warp will sign him and announce that they now have the original boc and release that box set.

I really happen to like Tycho and don't think he's a boards rip off, never really understood that. I can hear it in his earlier works but Past is Prologue stands well on it's own. The music is so warm and happy I can't not like it. And his art is lovely.

Never really got into Christ. Don't know why.
