These are turbid waters, for after a somewhat rarefied existence of 400 years, ambient has exploded into life in the past generation. Brian Eno is not without blame for using it of his Music for Airports album (1978). Now we have ambient house and ambient techno, and even ambient marketing, heaven help us. Ambience is all around. By the year 2000 ambient was embraced by Retail Newsagent as the mot juste for unchilled bottled water. The poor sausage roll had no chance of resisting its advances – until today.

I use to buy some nasty cheap teabags, that just said storage : ambient, which at the time i thought a little strange, but the dictionary definition of Ambient (in my dictionary at the time) merely said "in a cool dry place"
