just checked the best score noms. fucking AVATAR? james horner killed it in aliens, but the avatar score took insulting tribal bongo "booga-booga" music to a new low. for as 'innovative' and 'otherwordly' as the rest of the film was, the score had an opportunity to really go new places, but didn't. at all.

the 'up' score got nominated, which is good. that was pretty spectacular, actually.

haven't seen 'sherlock holmes' yet, but it's fucking zimmer. i can guess it's bombastic orchestral stuff with some 'edgy' electric guitar thrown in along with an overuse of stylus RMX.

what is it with music? the coraline score was amazing. cool instrumentation, amazing themes, a made-up language... never heard anything quite like it.

i guess these organisations are more apt to reward "very traditional, but with SLIGHT changes" than "truly different and great".

this is where i get admittedly pedestrian. i liked the avatar score. i think a good score should go relatively unnoticed, which was the case with avatar for me. it just aided to how i reacted emotionally to each scene. but i totally agree, there was nothing innovative about it. i was just pleased that there werent jock jams in the trailer or in the movie. they should get an oscar just for not having nickelback in their action blockbuster. so i think you pretty much sum it up with your last sentence.

for avatar, i really do think cameron should get best director, for the way the 3d was presented alone. despite pretty shit writing and for the most part marginal acting (the lead male was terrible. i still cant figure out if he was supposed to be australian or american in the movie), i have never been so immersed in a film. at the very least they should sweep all the technical categories.

Shouldn't Avatar be nominated for "Best Animated Picture" as well?

๋ฐฑํ˜ธ์•ผ~~~ํ•ญ์ƒ์— ์‚ฌ๋ž‘ํ• ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.๋‚˜์˜ ์•„๋“ค.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

Inglorious Basterds should win best picture imo. I am surprised over District 9, as well as Up.

Up vs. Coraline... I'd say Up.

District 9 for visual effects.

Yaa.

while I agree that the lack of Nickleback is always greatly appreciated, in my opinion the score was unnoticeable, it boomed and roared with really boring melodies when I just wanted to enjoy the environment. I would have liked Avatar a lot more if it didn't have a score at all.

Nice to see 'A Serious Man' get a nomination.

yes, I really like that movie, I've been falling asleep to it for a while.

Other than that i hope Fantastic Mr Fox wins something

and the jew hunter in inglorious basterds

don't really care about anything else

Out of the nominees for best picture I've seen:

Inglorious Basterds, Up, Up in the Air, and District 9.

I enjoyed Inglorious Basterds the most out of those 4 and then a toss up between Up in the Air and District 9. District 9 was a little blatant in its message....

So I hope Inglorious Basterds...

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.
