Here's one I like a lot. The album has vocals that are actually pretty weak, but musically they are tight and this song is instrumental. Oh yeah and their name sucks, obviously. :emotawesomepm9:

this thread's probably more a search for shit my dad fed me when i was a kid, more than actual new music.

Then this is what you want:

Happy The Man (The best American prog band ever.)

Camel

Greenslade

Nektar

Finch (70's Dutch prog band with an unbelievable guitarist: Joop van Nimwegen - gives Jan Akkerman a run for his money.)

Ethos (very obscure 70's prog band from Indiana)

Fireballet (very obscure 70's prog band from New York)

The Nice (Emerson's pre-ELP band)

Atomic Rooster (Palmer's pre-ELP band)

Gong

Caravan

Gryphon

FM (Obscure Canadian 70's prog)

Hatfield And The North

Egg

Matching Mole

Kayak

Van Der Graaf Generator

Henry Cow

UK (1st album only, prog's only true supergroup)

That's all I can think of right now without going through my old vinyl...

This isn't even the great stuff. Stupid youtube.

edit: it feels dirty lumping Univers Zero in with 'prog.'

Camel's 'Music Inspired By the Snow Goose' is mindblowingly fantastic, one of the best instrumental progressive rock albums you can dig up if you ask me.

Totally agree. I'm listening to Moonmadness right now actually (not instrumental).

Oh shit, here we go:

This is some poorly recorded live shit in three not-easily-digestible parts, but jaysus:

If you can find the proper Heresie album, get it. It's so. . . fucking. . . dark.

^ lol, there's less screamy bits in the studio album, and the structure of the music is tighter, but still.

Also. . . I left off part 4, not that anyone is going to make it through that shit.

I'm. . . I'm going to stop posting now.

this is an absolute MONSTER of an album. A magma ripoff perhaps, but an excellent one. I actually picked up a vinyl repress of it a year ago.

Eskaton were so fkn good. My favourite of theirs is Fiction, which is somewhat less proggy but contains some amazing songs:
