you've probably worked this out by now, but just in case...

the belt should be wrapped around the platter. you put the platter on the central spindle. there will be a couple of holes in the platter. you rotate the platter until you can see the drive spindle. you carefully pull the belt away from the side of the platter and hook it over the drive spindle. voila.
