OK folks let's rate em

I got inspired by reading a list in the Oversteps thread and think it would be an interesting thing to do. It would pretty effectively display everyone's bias and show if people really do think Confield is the best/worst...

Obviously at this point including Oversteps is sort of a funny thing to do but we can just use our own best judgment on that one... I'm not including EPs/promos/mixes etc in my list but by all means throw em in if you feel the love

Probably. But Amber and Incunabula being that low is criminal. They're all killer albums really.

I can't. Even though I've been listening to Autechre for over 10 years, I still don't feel like I have a firm grip on most of their albums to be able to rate them. They sound different every time I play them. I tried to make a list in the Overclusterfucks thread, but I gave up.

Draft 7.30 is tops though, I know that much. And Confield is probably 10.

Very hard to do, as I also don't feel like I have a grasp on the majority of their albums... and this list would probably change completely if I did this again in 5 mins, but here it is...

But I enjoy them all in their own ways, and Confield is a very good album. I should probably buy Amber/LP5/Incunabula at some point. Quaristice will turn up when it is released

If I am allowed to use EPs, I would slide Envane in above Untilted.

well that order would change all the time, but confield is Ae's best work for i. yeah their whole discography is fantastic.

The 10 LPs plus EP7 since it's basically an LP. These change from week to week but this is pretty accurate for how these rank on an average day for me.

draft 7.30 is probably their most cohesive lp, imo...or at least at tied with amber or tri repetae. so as far as "album experience" it'd prolly get number one from me.

and there's a huge drop off in consistency after that...i may've sat through Incunabula from beginning to end twice, ever...just doesn't meld together for me. LP5 used to, but i can't do it anymore. Quaristice and EP7 don't seem to me to have been intended as truly engrossing experiences, part of their appeal is that they're all over the place...but that doesn't work for me when it comes to listening to AE.

and even though i'll prolly get shit for saying it, i think Gantz Graf is their best EP.

I wont add oversteps yet, but Im absolutely loving it, though its nothing mind blowing like Draft was.

IMO Quadrange EPs is their hands down most peculiar, wonderful, characteristic Autechre release. It´s just dark magic that you can listen to every day.

And you know that no one else on this planet could make anything similar, it´s pure Autechre brilliance.

EDIT: How could I forget the amazing Garbage EP. Soo freakin good music.

The magic of Autechre is it's basically impossible to get unanimous decisions on their best and worst material. There is something for everyone. Some of these lists are polar opposites of my selections but I know that pretty much everything in their catalog is worth some serious listening time.

The only Autechre LP that I'm sort of judgmental about is Chiastic Slide. Cipater, Rettic Ac, Cichli, and Nuane are totally ace, but the rest of it sounds a little half baked to me. It sounds like they wanted to make Confield back in '97 but didn't have the necessary tools to do it for another few years. Ep7 has its share of great tracks like Rpeg, Dropp, and Pir, but some of it does sound like stepping stones. Other than that, I've always been pretty inspired by them.
