I used to have God Bless Your Black Heart but I never got into it, so I got rid of it. Perhaps another album would be more to my liking, I don't know. The song you posted is not bad but wouldn't particularly motivate me to check them out, either. If I did want to, what album would you suggest?

that's actually one of my favourites... but it's possible that the newest one "Someday This Could All Be Yours - Pt. 1" is a bit more palatable.

it generally takes me a couple of listens to uncover the genius in most of his stuff... and usually i don't like music that you have to listen to a few times to 'get'. it's hard to explain with these guys... the cacophony and dissonance is a trademark, but it's almost like it makes it so much sweeter when the harmony and melody hit right... i guess you could say a lot of their genius lies in contrast.

check out "Someday This Could All Be Yours", and see if that strikes you any better. try a few listens, too. the first track is pretty genius... i'm not usually a lyrical guy, but damn, those are some killer verses.

I dunno how many of you know them but I am rather quite a big fan of Stars of the Lid. Almost all of their shit is really good, but especially check out The Tired Sounds Of and The Ballasted Orchestra. Great albums, both.

i heard them for the first time like last week. i actually zoned out a little

Double Leopards. Well most of their records are not that great (they're one of those bands who releases - well, used to release for Double Leopards since they split - 10,000 records a year), but they've released a fucking masterpiece, Halve Maen, in 2003. Ambient/drone/noise fans should really get it - in my opinion it's the best album of the 00s. Really really interesting record, with a constant atmosphere that catches you and which you stay into for 80 minutes. Sounds nocturnal, dark, foggy, and simply awesome. Layers of sounds getting superimposed, really interesting textures, unknown sounds appearing and disappearing... yeah, really great. Also, don't get fooled by the viking metal titles (Viking Blood, Druid Spectre, etc), it's got nothing to do with viking metal.

I really like with how much different stuff you guys come up

I will look all of it up as there are obviously some treasures to find thanks a lot

Same as. Heard the name a while back but just last week I had a listen to Their Refinement of Decline because their name has dropped on these forums quite a bit over the last month. I like a lot.

Cool I'll look into that one, thanks. The part I bolded appeals to me and I think applies to many artists I like, so this is definitely a band I should like...but just because everything aligns and we should like something doesn't always mean we'll like it. It also could be that I'd like God Bless Your Black Heart better now than I did then, you never know.

these kind of threads are the real reason I come to these messageboards. I have always found the best recommendations via these sort of places than some computerized amazon style 'you might like' algorithm.

Opium and Global Systems Silently Moving are two great ambient bands. Algorithms by Opium is really fantastic droneish stuff, and GSSM is like an earlier manifestation of the Gas sound.

SOTL are a favorite of mine- I actually think they're one of the more popular ambient groups out there though...

I agree with the Sleep Whale recommendation, they've got a great sound.

I don't think too many people here are too into jazz, so...

grachan moncur III - trombonist, composer, & sometimes band leader.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

I love Halve Maen (and other Double Leopards stuff) and I also like Grachan Moncur III's stuff. I gotta recommend.. Tangerine Dream's albums up to about 1976
