oversteps artwork

so, i was wondering...is the artwork for Oversteps done with real paint, or something like Corel Painter?

i remember playing about with Corel Painter 10 a while back, and it gave some pretty realistic looking brush swashes and stuff.

im sure it was real. id hope so at least. if your concept is to do 14 black circles, i would hope they did them by hand.

I still dont feel the cover art fits the album. When I first saw it I thought of cold minimalism -> untilted style.

I felt the Quaristice artwork was spot on. Really genius (it also won a big design award). It described perfectly the muffled underwater feel and funkiness of a lot the tracks with the cyanish blue, and the splintered typography explained the sketchy jammy feel of the album.

This album does fit with the whole zen, asian feel of some of the tracks, but Im just not feeling it. The album to me is colorful, swirly, lush, complex and moody.

who knows if its synthetic or not

This was the cover they rejected at the final design meeting. Prefer this one?

Just realized each track on Oversteps has its own slightly different black circle artwork. Downloaded from Bleep. Happened to be checking a track name on my iPhone right when the track changed, and the artwork shifted. Nothing big, but something.

Yeah that was a bit harsh dude. To be fair if you don't check the forum often, it may be pretty hard to notice the differences in several black dots.

that's exactly the painting I was thinking of from the first time I saw it but didn't remember the name of the artist

Even if it was made by hand in the sketch phase, the final version was scanned and traced with vectors.

I'm pretty sure one of the only things autechre deliberately does with their music/art is identify and highlight the line between real and fake and then confuse the listener/viewer about what's what.
