It's even worse in Reaktor... reaktor's pretty quick n' painless, no? right-click -> midi learn -> tweak knob of your choice -> disco party 3000. Yes, midi learn is painless, but getting Logic to recognize and record parameters via touch/latch (or any further dialing-in) seems to require excessive wrangling with instrument and parameter IDs, making sure they don't exceed 127, compressing IDs when necessary, etc. I've read that this is only supposed to be required for custom instruments, but I run into the same problem with factory patches. Sometimes they automate fine, but the majority of the time, it's nothing.... I thought this was maybe a Logic thing, but I run into the same problem with Live... Have you been spared of this frustration through superior methodology, good sir? Guest maus
i suppose not, for host automation. since NI's host implementation is generally a bit lacking, i've always defaulted to assigning a midi controller and then just recording / drawing MIDI automation data instead - effectively the same result, albeit without the touch/latch type functionality, but for me that's not always essential. you could also hire a small person to move the knobs when the time is right.
