Guest fox
Snd have re-released their first three albums digitally via bleep and boomkat, likely others as well. makesnd cassette, stdio and tender love originally came out on the (now defunct or maybe coming back but who cares anyway) Mille Plateaux label, they are now apparently owned by Snd and carry the cat numbers Snd 7, 8 & 9. Here's hoping they put out their vinyl-only stuff digitally as well! Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53859-snd-digital-re-releases/ Share on other sites

Guest Enter a new display name
I always dreamed I owned SND's 3 albums on Mille Plateaux. All I have is Tender Love so far. Personally, my favorite is Stdio. I would say without a doubt this is one of the best albums of 2000. Guest spraaaa
yeah, was hoping this thread was about 4,5,6, I have the bootleg mp3 so I don't even know if it would make a difference, but that one is great. awepittance
the bootleg mp3s that i've heard are all ripped at the wrong speed. 4,5,6 are good if you really like stuttering effects, if you find them crass you may have a hard time listening. I love it though Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53859-snd-digital-re-releases/#findComment-1256680 Share on other sites
Guest fox
i'm hoping this is just the beginning, especially as the rights for these albums were not necessarily owned by them. so the fact that they are putting them out speaks well for them putting out their vinyl only stuff at some point. as for recommendations, you can't go wrong with any of them, but if you like atavism i'd say start working backwards through their catalog. and don't forget their album as blir on raster-noton, that's killer as well! homecharlie
I have actually preferred their shorter releases to the full length albums. My personal favorite is Travelog, their 3rd vinyl EP. Inner from 4,5,6 is also amazing, and both are definitely worth finding for fans of the Mille Plateaux albums. It's a bummer to hear that the mp3 rips are at the wrong speeds, since many people must be hearing the wrong thing! I can also confirm that these are supposed to be played at 45 rpm, since the Qoob TV CD contains tracks from Push which are at an equivalent speed. Guest nene multiple assgasms
yeah, I like how tenderlove is their u.k. garage album. they should do another genre album like that. or have they, and I just don't know about it? Guest bigs
i remember listening to makesnd cassette a few times and wondering what the hell was up. it was just one loop for about 3 minutes -- not very stimulating. listening once more (right now) on headphones (for a change) i can hear some more details and slight variations but not much. not ragging on them, but not really catching me. is their schtick then, that their albums are just one song expanded out to album scale, adding in tiny details? any other releases worth giving a listen to to try and get me into their groove? oh my god this music is perfect for doing work Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53859-snd-digital-re-releases/#findComment-1260103 Share on other sites

awepittance
i think the reason Atavism sounds so different is because it's using a lot of physical modeling synthesis, im serious! im not just going overboard on this i promise ieafs have you heard their compilation only track Palo Alto or the remix of team doyobi they did? those are probably my 2 favorite tracks ever by SND. The remix in particular sounds at first like it will a typical CD skipping type of thing but its masterfully done Edited March 4, 2010 by Awepittance Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53859-snd-digital-re-releases/#findComment-1260121 Share on other sites
Guest Enter a new display name
Yeah, I love Palo Alto off Dicks and Butts 3! I am briefly re-listening to Stdio, and once again, I must say how great the subtle melodies are, nostalgic even (which continues a little bit in Tender Love)! For what ieafs just said, Tender Love is quite easy to find, but the prior albums are indeed near impossible to find or just too expensive. :( Edited March 4, 2010 by Enter a new display name Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/53859-snd-digital-re-releases/#findComment-1260124 Share on other sites
awepittance
in a way i look at stuff like Atavism and 4,5,6 as SNDs Untilted or Draft, very stripped down almost tinier versions of what they did before. The remix in particular sounds at first like it will a typical CD skipping type of thing but its masterfully done Yeah, that remix was the first thing I ever heard by them, and it remains one of my favorites as well. So aggressive compared to their other work! It's interesting that they seem to let loose on the compilation tracks and remixes. Even the 12"s seems a lot looser than the full length albums, which are consistently my least favorite of their works. Somebody asked earlier about the 4,5,6 vinyl rips. My rip of Inner has track lengths of ~ 8, 3, and 10 minutes; hpunture ~ 7, 2, 9, and 1.5 minutes; push ~4.5, 1.5, 4.5, 7, and 4 minutes.
