I personally think that the human brain is unable to comprehend what true infinity is, we're too used to dealing with limits. a lot of people say something like "it's impossible for space to be infinite" and I say to them "so what's outside of space?". the concept of infinity is surprisingly easy to grasp, trying to come to terms with it is not. I think it's best we take it for granted and focus on something more important :sorcerer:

Yea this is similar to the people who say god created everything. If you ask them who created god, they say he always existed. I always wondered why even have him/her/it in the equation and just say the universe has always existed. Maybe it just expands and contracts like it's breathing and there are an infinite number of universes doing the same thing forever. In which case there is an infinite number of chances of life

thinking about existence makes me feel sick. not nauseous, but it's like the feeling in your chest you get when someone dies and you're crying like hell, expect sans the crying. extreme helplessness. i don't enjoy it, so i try not to think about stuff like "oh, why is the universe infinite? what is beyond it? how does it exist at all?" yuck.

i think the fact that choice exists proves that there is a god, where god is defined as the first person to control the universe and who presumably still does

these questions are simply answered:

1. the external universe ceases to exist (i.e. becomes nothing) when the mind is not employing matter

2. the universe is a logical fact and matter is binarily logical so if god doesn't want any matter to exist the universe reverts to the state of god's mind at the time

3. the universe must exist because there is the potential for things to be and they "always are" (i.e. time is irrelevant) so the universe began and exists but "always is"

i don't think it's that simple, especially because i don't believe in a higher power that controls the universe. i agree with jules. it's all chance. but why does the chance for a universe to come into creation exist at all?

the only answer i have for that is that we know now through experience that there are things, and therefore there has always been the potential for things

the universe is the sum total and collection of all things possible and impossible... impossible things exist only as ideas & possible things can be matter

Chance

explain what chance means

there is a chance a star is surrounded by planets. there is a chance one of them contains water. there is a chance that planet is in the perfect temperate zone. there is a chance life begins. there is a chance that life evolves intelligently. there is a chance that life is meaningless. there is a chance steven seagal keeps getting more new work.

so the chemical signals in the brain that create these emotions aren't matter?

I believe that there's definitely other intelligent life out there somewhere. I also believe I'd scream like a little girl if I ever saw one up close. Like if one walked into the room, I'd shit my pants even if it just wanted to play Mario with me

its epic, but we are fucked, one person might get to mars by the end of this century, no way we will make it to another universe before destroying ourselfs. Forgot what part of drakes equation blah blah

there is no profit in space, no emails from a delicious young humanoid colony needing to be saved, and when people do reap the rewards, it won't be me or you, it might be a small percentage of jacyequation be about 0.05% of our future ancestors might get to go mining for some shit on a moon.
