Except I don't use either of them as background task scanners they're used when someone's computer (not mine) has already gone tits up to clear up the debris ... and hell what's wrong with Spybot - it's got me out of many a problem.

Spybot in recent times has kinda slipped behind. It never picks up nearly as much as MalwareBytes. I think that's the preferable one nowadays.

Agreed, Malwarewarebytes is now my first port of call but Spybot S+D is certainly not a bad little program (and at least it's not Norton !)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Yeah, for real. I don't touch anything Symantec anymore.

My malware/spyware/virus removing kit is basically MalwareBytes, Hitman 3.5, ATF Cleaner, Rogue Remover, HiJack This and CCleaner. I know a couple are just analytics and temp file removers but I always like to give the machine a thorough clean. For the most part I do alright with virus removal, but if shit is going wrong here there and everywhere it's usually safer to back up your files and just do a system rebuild.

Keltoi if you get to this point, just download Windows Easy Tranfer and back up your user profile, rebuild and it'll reimport your files as they were. It's highly unlikely any of those files will have been infected.

best choice is to back up your data, wipe the drive and reinstall. then thoroughly scan your data before restoring it back.

if you want to try and clean it:

-turn off system restore

(in safe mode)

-malwarebytes

-combofix

-trend micro sysclean

-spybot s&d

-etc.

rinse, repeat. not an easy infection to clean. not even worth the time to try and clean it usually.

Me personally...I haven't gotten that on my machine. I just "fix" them for others as a side job. I do tell them about formatting option along with backing up.

norton ghost.

pulled my scrote out of the termite mound a number of times.

works like this... you get an install you're happy with... clean and stab le... you back up with norton ghost to one of your storage drives.

the minute shit like this, and i mean shit in the broadest possible definition of convolutions within which shot can occur, happens...restore from ghost all back to normal.

fucking brilliant.

their antivirus is pap tho.

You know you can be infected with a virus without even realising it. Just because your computer isn't acting funny doesn't mean your not infected. IMO it's very foolish to surf the net without any form of AV protection these days.

my most recent takes up 22Gb

you can compress if you like, but it's not advised if any of your original files are already compressed.

edit: and it runs from boot, so no worries if your system is fubar.

A combination of Malwarebytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ) Super AntiSpyware ( http://www.superantispyware.com - yeah I know the name sounds like one of those fake scareware programs but trust me it's really good ) and Spybot S+D ( http://www.safer-networking.org/ ) should fix it. If that aint done it follow instructions here - http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t157596.html.

It's weird I actually quite enjoy fixing peoples machines when the are all malwared up, it's like the ultimate geeky puzzle game

You only need 1 av program. Superantispyware and Spybot (which is a shocking program to use btw) are both real time scanners, meaning they are going to seriously effect performance. I would download and run Malwarebytes (it's a standalone scanner) unistall any other anti virus crap you have and install Microsoft Security Essesntials ( http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ ). If both of those things fail to clean your computer, then I'm afraid the best option after that is to do a clean format/install

And stay away from those dodgy sites in future!

spybot is not realtime unless you enable that feature

true, if you are careful about what you download and run you don't need anti virus software or any shit like that at all. but you can also get virii from shared flash drives and stuff like that so if you get files from other people regularly you should use one.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!
