he's not my favorite mc by a long shot, but i've always liked him. i think it's possible to like both tupac and biggie. i did, and i thought the rivalry was pretty awesome until people starting dying. after biggie got shot i didn't listen to hip hop for a good 4 years.

one of my all time favorite instrumentals as well.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

Yeah, it's a top for me but it's also one of the most disturbing. Gangsta rap has always been about sociopathy whether the rapper is that way in real life or if he's just artistically portraying it. Whichever, the lyrics in this track are fucking cold--humanless. They really reflect a Law of the Streets kind of thing where "I don't give a fuck if I clock you in the middle of the street and use bolt cutters to cut the finger off that has the 4 carat because I can't get it off fast enough." Sometimes, it's probably better not to know what some of these rappers have done at some point irl.

you know, the violence can be a metaphor for lyrically destroying the competition. I guess rappers don't always like to admit that it's not to be taken literally, though.

yeah, I think there was one rapper that went to jail because his lyrics boasted about doing some crime, which were used against him in court when he was arrested for said crime.

yeah I think that happens a bit. There was a rap group from where I am from called CCA (Concord Affiliates, name drawn from the Concord housing projects in Gary), who pretty much told the DEA everything they had going on (a LOT of cocaine) and are now all in prison for a loonnnnnnng lonnnng time. They weren't too bad back in the day.

"MURDER WAS THE CASE IN THIS MIDWEST STATE"

"GARY INDIANA SMALL TOWN WITH THE HIGHEST MURDER RATE"
