MAXIMUS MISCHIEF
On 3/22/2010 at 12:22 AM, chax said: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/spector-vision/duceppe-and-the-quebec-resistance-movement/article1507230/ Quote In a speech to 300 party members in Québec City yesterday, Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe said: "We’re on the right side, the rising side, of history. For the moment, we are resistants. But yesterday’s resistants are tomorrow’s winners….Quebec has no future in Canada…the only worthy future for Québec is full and complete political liberty. And that’s called sovereignty. " According to Bloc MPs interviewed by Le Journal de Montréal’s Taieb Moalla , this marks the first time that the Bloc has used the term “résistant” to describe itself, and it signifies that the Party is “raising its tone” in regard to Ottawa. At a press conference following his speech, according to a report by CP’s Martin Ouellet, Duceppe defended himself when questioned by reporters about drawing a parallel between the sovereignty movement and the French resistance against the Nazis. He said that he drew his inspiration from a text authored by the late intellectual and union activist Pierre Vadeboncoeur. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed that sovereignty would only be possible with the work of the resistance, as was the case for the liberation of France in 1944. “Québec sovereignty, no more than the Libération, is not possible, would not have been possible, without the work of the resistants.” Duceppe actually compared life in Quebec similar to life in France under Nazi occupation, which is just insane. This is a pretty extreme viewpoint to take. What I think is going to happen to Canada is that there will be another election either at the end of this year or next year sometime. There will be another 'issue' everyone is divided about, but there will be no change federally with another Conservative minority winning the election. Then all of a sudden there will be another NDP-Liberal-Bloc Coalition that will try to overturn the results of the election in order to get power. And because of the recent prorogation motion passed by Jack Layton of the NDP so that Stephen Harper can't prorogue the House of Commons anymore, the coalition ends up taking over and winning. After the riots and outrage and possibly civil war, Alberta and the West decide to secede from Canada, resulting with every other province also becoming their own republic. The end. that would be shitty. chenGOD
the craziness in this thread is off the hook. lol at american and canadian culture being the same. 90% of the Canadian population live within that range because of geography, not out of any sense of affinity with America. If you think we'd be better off as the 51st state, go live there with their wonderful free-market health care approach, lots of guns, and millions of crazies (see tea party thread). lol at the Bloc Quebecois who will continue to fail. Yeah you guys sure are being shipped off to gas chambers out there in Quebec. Alberta is part of the prairies, not the west. The rockies represent more than a physical barrier. having said that, it takes more than cultural differences to split up a nation. And those stresses are not present in Canada. LOL at chax - that's right, all the environmental degradation caused by the tar sands is just propaganda. In fact greenpeace hacked google satellites to show the erosion on google maps. How about a different way of looking at it: the tar sands will appease the world's thirst for oil for 30 years, delaying research on alternative energy sources. Everyone here calls Alberta the west. Quote LOL at chax - that's right, all the environmental degradation caused by the tar sands is just propaganda. I'm not saying it's all propaganda, that there isn't environmental damage, but most of the groups that are saying it are these super extreme left-wing groups that want all of us to significantly lower our quality of life in favour of some kind of socialism or marxism. It isn't just about concern over the environment with Greenpeace. Yeah there is environmental damage, but that's the cost of progress. I don't understand the mentality of not wanting to make Canada better and more prosperous. Besides the technologies to put the entire country (which mostly is rural) on some kind of 'clean' renewable energy source is definitely more than 30 years away. The sooner the fragmentation of Canada happens, the better everything will be. Anyway, It's Duceppe man. He's got not choice to do that. You're not in Quebec, you just can't understand. Guest Enter a new display name
I can still remember Philip Glass calling me an idiot for not voting for Gilles Duceppe in the last federal election, haha. Duceppe acts over the line at times, he tries too hard to live his dream of separation, like the Quebecois party's leader. I don't feel the need to separate, sincerely. You know english people from the Montreal metropolitan area will keep talking english no matter who rules our province. Sure, french makes us a bit different from the rest of the country, but we should thank our bilingualism for keeping us strong economically. What would improve our lives if Quebec was a country? St-Jean Baptiste (Quebec's national day) is enough to make us feel strong as quebecois people, it is not a matter of borders. I don't see any disadvantages in sharing Canada with the other provinces. I love you, guys. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54543-i-like-canada-its-the-shit/page/3/#findComment-1276086 Share on other sites
