Fallout 3 is overrated

Recommended Posts

Guest Pennywise

Its not a bad game but I cannot understand why people think it's so good.

-the story is crap

-the environment is dull and samey

-rubbish variation of enemies

-so many glitches

im playing bioshock at the moment and that game totally dicks on fallout 3. Can you tell me why I am wrong please (without saying i wear a helmet made of dried semen or something)

I'm also selling CODMW2 tomorrow as well as BFBC2 is just superior.. if it wasnt for fifa10 i think i would have sold my xbox a long time ago.

i'm replaying it in 1080p at the moment and i love it just as much as the first time. when you're bored of the main story you can just head west for a wander about.

my 'v' key is sticking though, and that's not a good key to have sticking when you're playing fallout 3

what major game franchise isn't overrated these days?

Fallout 3 has almost endless re-playability and customization and incorporates countless hours of play time in a single walkthrough...that's incredibly appealing to gamers like myself, and they pulled it off well. As expansive as the game was, I never expected the story to be revolutionary in any sense, it did enough to keep you interested and immersed.

I agree that the level design could have been a little better, but you still have the freedom at least in GOTY edition to see the swamplands, mountainous strongholds, and an alien spacecraft at any point you wish.

By no means is Fallout 3 the best game I have ever played, but it's definitely up there...I think you expect too much from games to be honest.

Bioshock is the same for me, beautiful landscapes, but towards the end it gets a little samey. Excellent gameplay but there are flaws (hit your plasmid, then hit the button to call up your gun/wrench, then attack)....the sequel addressed that problem more than adequately but by that point the immersion factor was somewhat lost, the story somewhat blander...yet it still made for a damn fun play-through.

in all honesty can you recommend me these mind-blowing games which have set your high standards? certainly they are without flaws whatsoever.

why would you compare bioshock 2 with fallout 3? they're entierly different games, the only thing they have in common is the fps perspective.

the story isn't crap nor great, but it works.

the enivornment is not dull and samey, ffs it's a post-apocalyptic wasteland, there's not a whole lot to work with, but they've done wonders with it.

the number of different enemies are fitting for a fallout game, what would you add? aliens? there's an expansion for that.

i've clocked 90+ hours on fallout 3 on ps3 and have had maybe 3 or 4 crashes, i don't know what glitches you're talking about though.

fallout2 is possibly in my top 3 best game ever list, along with maybe portal and the sentinel

bioshock is, i think, a game that the accusations in the OP could be levelled at - they create this incredible, beautiful-looking environment, add bucketloads of atmosphere through the tapes and shit, and the whole ayn rand/moral decision thing which is properly original... and then stretch a fairly formulaic plot relatively thinly over it all? wtf?

edit: 2 is worse. there was no need at all for a bioshock 2.

I have to agree with you there, there are very few real quality games out there. Valve are the balls, Half life 2 is the game that sets the standards, especially fps's. Literally, fuck anyother new release, i just want to play episode 3. There is no other game franchise that i care about, i just wanna play some more half life.

For me, Fallout 3 doesnt have endless replayability because i didn't finish playing it once! I got quite far and i don't care enough to finish it, thats unusual for me, i do tend to finish most games

i mean, i think gaming is at a strange crossroads where multiplayer is 90% of the market, or so it would seem....developers trying to create more of an immersive and perhaps even "intellectual" experience (complex plots, moral choices, etc etc) that can compete against multiplayer games....but i could be waaaaaay off there.

I've done about 180 hours give or take (ps3, done everything except the pitt and point lookout), and I get crashes and freezing a hell of a lot. The addons make it a lot more unstable. I've learned to live with it though, and personally i think there is no better adventure-type game. I have reached the point though where I kind of want to get it finished quickly - reached level 30 long ago, have every weapon worth having, more ammo than i'll ever need, something like 900 stimpacks, so can defeat any enemy really easily, the challenge is gone but discovering stuff is still fun.

Fallout 3 was extraordinary. Yes, the writing wasn't as good as a Black Isle game, but otherwise it was crafted exceedingly well. It's a pretty hard game to hate on, I would think?

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

i just got back into fallout 3. i downloaded a bunch of cool mods. they make the game slightly less stable, but after the initial figuring out what the load order should be and some other weird glitches, everything has been going smoothly. it's a fun game.

but it doesn't compare to old school rpgs (planescape, the original fallout etc etc) at all.

i miss the focus on story-telling. the last game i really enjoyed that had a great story was portal. i can't wait for the sequel.

that would be... the game you were involved in developing, then.

well I'd like to think I can be objective and dispassionate about it :emotawesomepm9:

actually we were an independent contractor on the game so I think if anything it gave me more reason to doubt they could pull it off, and more reason to want to distance myself from it if it turned out poorly.

I genuinely loved it, as an admitted huge fan of the games. I mean we've done a lot of work on other games that I don't gush about, such as Killzone 2, which I felt was a very expensive but not very creative been-there-done-that slog.

i genuinely do as well, i mean, when i heard that development was being handed over to team oblivion i was pretty worried. but they did pull it off.

and the fact black isle people are involved in new vegas is good news too. just mentioning it for full disclosure ;)

yeah we weren't invited to help out on New Vegas and I'm not sure why, they used us for concept art but not 3D this time around. Really bummed me out.

We are working on the sequel to another Bethsoft IP tho. :whistling:
