IDM Funeral

i also enjoy using the term IDM, but in reality i describe it as 'alternative electronic music' otherwise everyone thinks i listen to techno, or something like moby

I was hoping this thread would be abuot someone having their funeral in an IDM fashion, like in an anechoic chamber with the body being vapourised by a laser at the end.

It should be called home listening electronic music. HLEM. That sounds kind of IDM actually.

I assume every one ignored my posts that Intelligent __ electronic music ideas have been around since EARLY 90's.

I only use the term "IDM" to describe to my friends what watmm is a forum for so that they can understand how I choose to waste my time.

Or I use it when I'm trying to help a layman imagine what Aphex or Squarepusher is, because lots of people have heard the term over the artist, for some reason.

Every time I say "idm" I cringe a little inside. I guess it exists in some way but to me, it just sounds like musical snobbery.

Also, I always thought "Braindance" was a term that applied strictly to Rephlex artists. Wasn't that the first context it was used in?

I definitely have never used that term outside of this forum, nor do I plan to.

I guess I prefer the term "weird electronic music".

I also remember in the 90s when people were calling 'atmospheric jungle' (like LTJ Bukem) "INTELLIGENT DRUM AND BASS". That always pissed me off.

That's interesting. When I'm describing these men to the layperson, I unabashedly refer to them as the Bachs and Beethovens of our times.

Cosmic Baby, Ravesignal, Sven Vath, C.J. Bolland, Laurent Garnier, Dave Angel - a couple of hits of LSD-25, a pack of smokes and maybe 3 joints and I'd be in heaven.

I'm just getting into most of these names, but I listened to some awesome mix tapes by Colin Dave and Colin Dale (lots of early "intelligent techno" stuff, mostly R&S records and the like) did they produce any thing, or were they mostly DJs?
