WATMM MANCHESTER MEET UP/GIG

i'm a complete technical luddite, i can barely make my laptop to fart out noises, but it's a great idea! i'd love to see this happen.

i have a camcorder, that takes miniDV tapes. i don't have any spares, so i would need either a donation for money to buy some (since i'm jobless), or if anyone has any spare that are knocking around.

i also could possibly bring my EeePC and see if we can sort out a soundboard broadcast via ustream or something, but that would require an internet connection at the venue and appropriate cabling. cabling shouldn't be an issue, but the internet connection may be.

Just use any laptop with a webcam and broadcast using LiveStream.com (or Ustream as mentioned above)

If you wanna get fancy, run sound out from the board to the mic-in or convert to usb audio to the laptop. If you have HDMI capabilities with your camera/laptop, use it for the video feed. Or firewire, or just a USB webcam and choose the soundboard feed for the "mic".

If you guys can be arsed to set that up, I'll be tuned in!

Maybe we should forget the idea of the live stream for now, seems like too much hassle.

I have just got onto the Landlord of the venue, as the promoter guy isn't very quick with the details! So asked him what time we can get set up and start playing, just waiting for his reply then I can get some idea of how much time we will have, and I can also get asking some more people to play.

It's easy! Will the main board have rca outs? Just get one of these:

and point a basic webcam at the stage!

Seems so easy! haha, well anyone understand this that would be willing to try? I will have to ask the owner if they have internets we can use. Well into the camera idea though.

yeah, it's very easy to do a live stream, i did it at the xltronic meetup / DJ set thing. but it was with Stickam, which wasn't great.

if someone can help me get a shoutcast set up, i have no problem with my EeePC being used for streaming stuff (so long as no-one fucks around by it with drinks or greasy fingers).

but i have a ustream account which should be adequate for a live stream, and then if some miniDV tapes can be sorted, i can try to edit together the footage. dunno how long that'll take though - it's been a VERY long time since i did any video sequencing (back in college!) and i still need to acquire a firewire cable from somewhere.

They finally got back to me and we can get in for 3pm! I'm thinking - sound check everyone then try and start at about 4:30! I can finally get onto some other people to play now. Any more watmmers want to play? I'm going to start sorting some set times out in the next few weeks too so please get back to me soon if you want to play.

I'm going to go into the Crescent one day soon and check out what's available. The promoter guy isn't that reliable really. It took me to message the landlord to actually get a response from the promoter! So, from now on I will sort all this stuff on my own. I will try and get in there in the next few weeks and I will take in a list of queries from everyone. If anyone lives local and just happens to be popping in for a pint then just ask if you can see the room we are playing in. I'm sure they won't mind if you say you are playing there in a few months.

I suppose people can get there as early as they like, its only 5 mins into Manchester so everyone can roam free for a while, or just come to the actual place as it is a pub and will be open from 11 or 12!

Going to try and get some idea of set times soon, I will quite gladly bite the bullet and play first. It will give me more time to make sure everything is running smoothly. Does anyone else have any preference what time they would like to play?

I was thinking maybe Gareth Clarke would headline it? That way us watmmers can sit back and get sloshed and listen to some amazing music...I will leave it open to suggestion though.
