ghOsty
I'd say FlyLo owes a lot more to Prefuse 73, Nightmres on Wax, Madlib, and John Coltrane (who is his uncle) rather than Aphex Twin. I was saying that Clark's music sounds more directly inspired by Aphex twin himself than say the entire genre of IDM where as Flying lotus seems more influenced by a scene of artists more than any singular artist Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54711-how-long-til-we-get-a-flying-lotus-thread/page/4/#findComment-1547423 Share on other sites
jules
I think Clark has done an amazing job of getting away from that aphex comparison. I can totally see it on some of his early releases especially throttle clarence but totems flare is pretty far removed from all of that. vocal melodies and choruses are a big part of that record. FlyLo is doing his own thing, not quite like anything else that anybody's done. I disagree. If I had heard LA without knowing Flying Lotus existed, I would have assumed it was the next place Prefuse 73 was taking his music. But Cosmogramma is indeed fantastic. I wouldn't say Clark is any more derivative of things that came before him. It's pretty obvious within the first 10 seconds of any Clark track that I'm listening to Clark, and that's something I value quite highly in electronic music. So many artists in this area sound interchangeable to me, but Clark's sound is pretty distinct.
