any keyboard stands/desks?

how far to the main mixer, is there a terminal on stage (should be) and is it XLR or 6.5mm jack?

plugs sockets, how many and how far?

how big is the stage? we will need some time to set up so if we can get ready during a DJ set and shove our stuff to one side that would be ideal.

any room for a projector or laser? :rhubear2:

Clap your hands. If you hear a massive echo, that is not good.

Take a cd with some tracks that are well produced that you are super familiar with and see how they sound on the sound system.

Take a cd with some not too well produced, or mixed tracks and see how they go over (again ones you are very familiar with)

Also stand on stage, and in the crowd area when stuff is playing on the PA. If you can't hear very much on stage see if you can get some monitors, or get them turned up, since most the music likely won't be using house microphones, if any at all, they should be able to pump up the monitors. If they can't do anything about that situation you may want to instruct people to bring their own speakers to monitor with, or some good live headphones.

Ask if they have a limiter on the main mixers master output, since you are dealing with electronic music, it's often that clubs with compress the crap out of everything b/c they fear levels that are too loud, instead of just simply sticking a limiter on the main output.

Edit: Also ask what frequency their PA crossover is set at. It should be fine regardless, but a lot of clubs are tuned to an acoustic bass drum which is a bit higher than typical electronic kicks, and may not translate well. A lot of bass players play direct these days, and regardless a lot of the bass gets filtered out of small club PA's, especially if they are using amps, because the bass amps carry just fine without the PA (the low frequencies that is). So if there are issues with bass or especially sub bass coming out, check the crossover setting.

Good stuff! Thanks, I will make a note of all these things.

Ok, who is definitely going? And how many people are staying in Hotels or the local travelodge? It would be best to try and sort out some rooms and stuff now really. I know there are some watmmers in need of a place to stay, and you can get a travelodge for £60 for up to 3 people...cheap as fuck. GET IT SORTED!

Just to report back(finally) - I didn't do/ask any of the things I was meant to.

They played some loud as fuck acid through the speakers and it sounded spot on to me, either way its all we have and I think it will be good enough! There will be lights/lazers AND a smoke machine.....(yep)....

We will have Internet on the day, the one thing I didn't ask though was what the upload speed is, though I doubt the chap I spoke to would have known anyway. Oscillik will be coming with his internetty stuff to try and stream it, I guess we will find out on the day if it will work. There will undoubtedly be lots of filming and pictures being taken anyway. I will be recording my own set as I'm playing, if everyone else could do the same it will be great, or we can try and do a soundboard recording...how ever one does one of them?!

Yeah, there will be a BBQ on too if its not raining, if it is they will be doing an indoor BBQ(under the grill...I suppose?!)

There will also be some CDs of some of the artists playing all the money from that, as well as any profits from the BBQ will be donated to the Charity(which just reminded me, I still haven't filled in the fucking form for it!!).

Well, its all looking to be a great day, if we are lucky we will have some beautiful weather too!

If anyone is thinking they would like to come but think its too expensive then make sure you check out http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ first, LOADS of trains from £11 upwards, that's from London too!! As for hotels and stuff, there is a travel lodge a few miles away from £44 a room, and holds 2 people - £22 each!! DO IT!!!!

So, yeah - all is looking great, we are getting some local papers involved and possibly some local radio stations, not too sure on that atm.

Not long off now!!

even if the internet connection there isn't great, i should at least be able to record the sets.

soundboard recording should be very simple to sort out, just take a line out from the mixer to the laptop. sorted.

I'm bringing my R09-HR for live recording although it does also have a line in.

A mate has also volunteered his home server if anyone knows how to sort that shit out for streaming?

They rung me up today when I was at work so I couldn't answer, but left me a message saying they had the forms and everything is cool, just need to ring them back tomorrow. So its all goooood!

Btw, this is FREE as fuck now!! :D

I really hope you guys can make it. I know some are thinking about coming as the trains are so cheap. Please do, even though this is now a charity gig, the original reason for this was that it was a WATMM meet up! I, and everyone else involved would love to meet all the lovely people on this site that can make it.

Book your trains as soon as possible, most journeys are £11! If enough people come they can share travellodge things or where ever!

fucking trashbear!!!

If you go on the day itll cost less than half that. Train fares are a pain in the arse. I was once given an online quote of £240 from London to Liverpool, but on the day across the counter it was about £55. Or could you not get a local train to Leeds/Sheffield or somewere closer and change, they usually work out much much cheaper.

Appreciate that PB, nice of you to take the time to check the trains  . It is usually pretty steep for me to travel to the Northwest when I visit my folks, I usually expect to pay about £80 on the day. The main thing stopping me though is that I'm a (very mature, read: old) student in my final year, and work is getting to be what you could call crucial, plus I'm on a placement as well which involves working weekends. Realistically I'd need to pull off a miracle plus have the time off to come. Thanks again though mate, rooting for you and :trashbear:, hopefully it'll just the first of more...?
