afaik the hdd is easily exchangeable in the unibody models? so no warranty seal breaking.

but, ssd's aren't technically flawless still and yes, still a bit too expensive. for some reason they don't get cheap quick enough. i'd go with the standard drive, you can always upgrade that later, and invest the money in a model with fatter CPU (i7 over of i5? let's see tomorrow) instead. imo.

They both have been available. Matte is $50 extra

totally worth it, plus if you want the satisfying 'im a mac fag' feeling like i experience on a daily basis, the black border around the screen on the glossy version makes it look TOO PC LIKE FOR ME

I haven't seen the matte in person but I will have to before I buy. That glossy drives me nuts that they would make it that glossy and then just stick to their guns after tons of complaints. There is a reason all hdtvs are not mirrored glossy...

so, i picked up a 24" cinema display yesterday. it's giving off an overly strong "new electronics" smell, like fresh superglue and cheap plastic. burns my eyes :(

i've got a big fan pointed at it right now, trying to get rid of the fumes while i'm out of the house. if it still smells in a couple days, it's going back.

my macbook didn't have this smell.

also, new macbooks are out: http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

15" core i7 looks like what im going to go for. now i have to spend an extra $150 for a hi res matte screen? wtf. also, that ships with a 500 gb 5400 rpm drive. 7200 is $50 more and the 128 ssd is $200 more. eek.

don't buy the ssd from apple. sell the included drive on ebay and replace it with an ssd from intel.

also, the high-res screen costs extra because it's 1680x1050 instead of 1440x900.

yeah but the glossy hi res is cheaper than the matte. is the matte the only acceptable option here?

is that an easy swap?

im def going for the higher pixel count screen. i still have to see the matte in person, but i kind of like the black around the edge. i dont really find it too pc looking. the silver bezel makes me think of the powermac g4 and that was like 2002. i really dont care about that too much though, i just want to see if the matte screen looks washed out at all.

so it seems the matte is only offered as the higher pixel count which means that its now $150 extra for matte. :cerious:

nice, so im looking at the 15" core i7. i guess ill ad the 7200 rpm drive and possibly swap it out in the future for an ssd. now to decide on the $150 upgrade for matte or not....

so if you're planning to add a ssd later…. then why throw the extra 50$ for the 7200rpm soon-to-be-disposed drive at them instead of, like, saving it for the ssd or more RAM?

economics, i don't get them.

it may be much later
