Squarepusher DJ Set - Ether 2010

I'm going, it's vaguely plausible that my friend might record it, he's been known to do such things in the past.

This would be amazing. Please tell him that the dj set might include new squarepusher material. Like the dj set only on new years eve back in 2007, there he played his favourite rave records along to tracks of numbers lucent( Paradise Garage and Helical Torch), before the recording of just a souvenir even started. Dj set could also mean the epic old school rave and bass set up, with archive material. Anyway we might get a sneak peek of adventures to come.

force him to.

Ha, my friend's fully aware of the possibilty of new material or old unheard stuff. We'll have to wait and see, it's not really up to me.

It's worth noting that Chris Cunningham will be showcasing new material, which may include music composed by himself. Considering the people he's worked with in the past he could also be previewing some interesting new video work featuring collaborations with allsorts of exciting people. What ever happened to the Spectral Musicians project he was working on with Squarepusher? If Aphex is going to be releasing new material this year it's possible they could have worked on more visuals for his music. Wasn't there talk of Aphex's next release being some sort of collaboration anyway, or did I just imagine that?

Anyhoos, should be fun.

Squarepusher seemed to be having technical difficulties with either his mixer or the decks and for 15 min. all you could hear was this droning sound going round in circles. That was also a bit of a let down. We didn't have the patience to sit it out and decided to head back to Irieman's to smoke some trees and draw....(Luckily, we have both seen Squarepusher a number of times, so it wasn't too much of a biggie that we missed him)

Yes, it was rather a let down, I was very tempted to pretend he'd played a set full of unheard Go Plastic vs Tundra 4 mind fuck genius, but that would have been very far from the truth. In reality he played over 15 mins of Vacuum Garden style noise that looped over and over but eventually began to sound almost like there might be something interesting about to happen. Then it didn't, he played some folky stuff and then some fonky stuff, some of which was an interesting selection but in the majority was nothing out of the ordinary. What I mean by that is his selection didn't attempt to educate us with obscure gems, he played some fairly well known funk tracks which got everyone dancing but left the majority of fans a bit let down. There was some nice 80's synth funk in there at one point which was fun but there could have been more highlights and the mixing was rather poor too. We tried to make the best of it and wished that at any second he'd suprise us with a fresh treat from the vaults, but whether he was attempting to be obstinate or felt that this wasn't the right occaision it never happened. The drones at the beginning were undoubtedly his, but that was all he was willing to give us.

My mate did bring his recording device, but there's not much really worth uploading.

Upload anyway, unless its shit quality. Will there ever be another Warp20 style gig I wonder? :)

Yes please upload it. That would be very nice.

And remember: This will be the first time a "true" dj set of squarepusher will be published as a bootleg, the 2 radio ones aside.

Compare that to Richard D. James...
