And those are still the worst designs I've ever seen. They didn't grow one me, instead I dislike them more and more every time I see them.

I'm sure you'll be given the chance to shell out another 25 bucks on a 3D Blu-Ray version later this year, unless the BD version already has the 3D data encoded in it...

They're not going to do 3D DVD - they'll use the 3D to push more people to the Blu-Ray format for sure.

i also see the difference between appreciating something for what it is and being a hater because it was successful.

I don't think anyone here is knocking it whether for its success. I personally couldn't give two hoots if the film made $1 or $1 billion, I just didn't like it because despite the animation being all spangly 3d - the design, story and characterisation was very much one dimensional !

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I was one of the people that liked it, but it didn't grab me emotionally or anything - just was a decent story set to some amazing visuals. I can never understand how people can say "the visuals look so cheap", etc. - this is some of the best CGI to come out of Hollywood so far. I could see the criticisms if there were obviously greenscreened scenes, aliased edges, choppy animation, or unrealistic movements in the characters, but there's not - the whole scene with the rubbery dog things pacing around the fire really impressed me at it's sheer realism.

i think my favorite part of the film was the middle hour where all they were doing was romping around the alien planet.. the level of detail put into designing all that shit, i can't imagine the work.

i don't know if i could sit through the whole thing again though. maybe if it were still in the imax.

  • 6 months later...

*bump*

So ive not seen this movie yet.

Should I shell out for the Blu-Ray of the special edition of the movie thats like 40 minutes longer than the theatrical release? Or should I just get the standard version. Sometimes the extended versions are just a bit meh, anyone seen it?

hahahaha. like it needs an extended version. i remember eating my jumper out of complete and utter boredom around the 2-3 hour mark of the film at the cinema.

just saw jackass3D and i honestly cannot think of a better use of 3D (no joke or exaggeration here). incredible 3D perfection. fuck 3D>

You can watch any of the 3 cut on the Blu-Ray, so get it.

Anyway this edition is the definitive edition, it's got hours of extra material. Heck, there's a 500 page digital encyclopedia on disc 3 !!!!

the visual were great because of the color imo, but there was nothing impressive about the cgi, it looked like a cross between a video game and a a winamp visualization plugin.

as i said when i saw it, the movie managed to fascinate me (pretty colors!) and bore me to death (awful everything else!) at the same time.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

it is 16 minutes longer than the theatrical cut. saw the Special Edition in theaters, so can give you some idea of the extra footage:

  Reveal hidden contents

the scene at the end seemed really jarring, first Jake was incapacitated on the ground after the decompress, now he's instantly back in his Avatar just in time for the death scene? bad editing.

i meant the 3d aspect coupled with the world they created was basically what made it so alluring.. most of the appeal of the movie is lost without it, imo.
