You know Slayer fucking rules.

I got a weird story to tell thee. I actualy got into metal from a religious God-Squad mate of mine LoL. Thing is he loved playing guitar at church on Sunday, so in his pursuit of playing the 6 string he started listening to Steve Vai, Guns and Roses (Appetite) because he loved Slash and other bands and musicians who weilded the mighty axe. He used to play Appetite for Destruction to me when I was round his house and I eventually got into it. However he would not venture into 'dark territory'. He told me that Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth were the Devils work, so I should beware of such evil music!!!!!!! OR MY SOUL WILL BURN!!! Thankfuly I have a mind of my own and somehow, somebody lent me Seasons In the Abyss. I was expecting some wacked out dude screaming a bunch of incoherent noise and wall of wank. The TDK90 slowly spun in my Walkman and I was just fucking floored by the groove, not that I wanted to moonwalk but for some reason this shit was so heavy but it had a crunch to it that I loved. I thought Arayas voice was the key. How could someone sound so evil but sound laid back? How could somebody sing so fast but at the same time have this laid back drawl? I still love Arayas voice. That's my problem with a lot of new metal bands or Scandanavian death metal bands, they sound like goblins or orcs. Araya makes them sound like idiots. That's it, I could do a neverending story on Slayer.

Though I didn't like a lot of post SITA stuff there would always be a few good tracks and World Painted Blood is there best in a long while. Sometimes I think they should of pursed a much darker slower style, like Gemini off Undisputed Attitude.

Holy fuck I just remembered! Here is my God Squad mate on youtube. 20 years on since I last seen him, he works for some church in America (no suprise). As you can see, he definately didn't get into Slayer. He changed his name to Kish from Robert and is still following the good book.

One mixed up dude, only because religion messed him up. Though he looks quite sane nowadays on youtube. He was diagonosed as schizophrenic, his other half was a vampire. I aint joking...

Anyway about South of Heaven... Ghost of War is a classic.

yeah, he's got the best voice in metal IMO, and the rest of the band had so much talent they were destined for greatness...

anyone else have a hard time understanding friends who are big into music but don't like metal? ever since i heard my first slayer track, raining blood, i've always had a headbanging itch that needs scratching on a regular basis. rocking the fuck out every once in a while seems like an integral part of being a music listener to me.

the audio quality is atrocious, but this is still an impressively intense performance:

on a recent tour they played reign in blood from start to finish and for the track 'raining blood' they actually had blood raining on the stage

When I was a freshman in high school (circa 93) my buddy and I had an intro to music theory class in which we had to step-record or quantize a midi project from the sheet music of our choice. We picked the guitar solo from Dead Skin Mask, for which I had the music from an issue of Guitar Player Or some similar magazine. Our teacher thought it wasn't music and he gave us a bad grade. Fuck that guy. He lives a sad sad life.

I have a videotape somewhere of a Slayer show in NYC, reign in blood tour. The set is probably 35 minutes at most. At the end Tom Araya screams into the mic, " good night Do Nork!"

Slayer rules.

I was really impressed with God Hates Us All.

One of my favorite Slayer tracks... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7YemOGcqBE&feature=related

1:36 is a quasi-jungle beat.

"WAAAARZOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!!"

Fuck yeah!

The new one (World Painted Blood) is a tad disappointing. It which the guitars on it sounded better.

I agree the production leaves the guitars sounding very thin, apart from that I reckon it's a really good effort.
