Anvil Vapre

Recommended Posts

Listened to this on the bus this morning. It's been a while. It just dawned on me today that the tasty crunchiness of Chiastic Slide is in here, it's just not the focus. In fact I think there's a little bit of it in Garbage, it's just more awkward. Also a lot of the cool melodic sounds on Anvil Vapre seem to be either FM synths (the bassline of Second Scout) or very short loops of percussive samples (the bassline/lead of Second Peng).

Second Scepe still confuses me, I can't figure out what's going on with the lead in there. Awesome track.

Garbage -> Anvil Vapre -> Chiastic Slide is probably the most interesting progression in their history.

Second Scepe is still the best Anvil Vapre track if you ask me. It's pretty much perfection.

agreed. i very well might put it in Autechre's top 10, actually. it's that good.

while i'm here: i wish Second Bad Vilbel was better than it is. i liked it way back in the day (and the video is still cool) but the track just seems to drag on.

Bad Vilbel passes by a lot quicker than the 10 min running time would have you expect. I can't listen to the video version because it feels so edited down.

That's something I admire about AE, the time they take building their tracks. The break down in Bad Vilbel only makes sense because of the amount of time building up to it, it makes sense thematically. My only gripe about their output in the last four years is that they don't do the long buildup-breakdown tracks so much anymore. Makes sense considering they don't share a studio anymore though I suppose.
