Lil Wayne - I Feel Like Dying

I guess for me the appeal of Lil Wayne was that he was stealing other rappers beats and making more interesting songs out of them and putting them out for free. He was putting out mixtapes that were on par with- if not better than most rappers official releases at the time.

I dont really like southern rap. lil wayne seemed to take everyhting i hated about it (excessive bling lyrics, drugs, guns money talk, handclap beats etc..) and made me love it.

He's like Big L in the sense that he puts on this persona of this immortal kid just fucking and killing and being over the fucking top.

"I'm in the South where I hug the block like a turnbuckle,

can't get stopped by the vices

No license, rollin' like dices

on the streets where the odds is high

The crime is life and the time is jail and in the jail your stressing

The judge prolly hit me with a algebraic expression

But I get away free like Oceans 11!!!"

"You can't see me it's like 1,000 blindfolds

and my mind state, just put 1,000 on top of those.

I do school and do lunch at papadeaux's.

they want beef? I turn that to sloppy joes.

This stunt shit is extensive and intense

like pullin' up in somethings americans can't invent.

I make 'em fall back, they gotta indent

Like a paragraph , the first sentence

I'm way smarter man, I'm mo' gifted

Straight from the womb to pro. Prolific.

Im so I'm so so I'm so Lifted!

High in the sky, Me and Pops takin' Pictures."

"You Know Me I Smoke A Blunt While I'm Gettin Brain

Stick My Finger In Her Butt While I'm Gettin Brain.

Yea, Im Nasty Bitch What, Lil' Wayne.

I Like Them Macked Up Lips And Two Tongue Rings

I Gotta Say It, Im The President, I Run Thangs.

NAll These Hoes Tryin To Save A Niggas Cum Stains.

Real Talk, I Get Head On The Airplane.

Bitch Be Climbin' All Over That Lil Chair Thang.

I Pull Her Hair Back, She Holler Yea Black

I Like A Bitch With Some Lips Like A Bear Trap."

He has saturated the market a little bit, and the quality of his lyrics I feel have gone down. but from 2006-2008 He was NOWHERE on television and kept releasing quality shit for FREE.

People tell me his lyrics are great, I wouldn't know. Why doesnt he get someone else to sing 'em.

But I suppose if he auto-tuned the fuck outta his voice I'd be the 1st to complain so I'll let him at it.

This one is just fucking incredible. Ignore the fucking Gucci Mane verse, it almost ruins the whole fucking track.

Why not?

What I'm saying is that Wayne's persona wouldnt exist without Big L.

L:

"I put chumps to rest fast, when my Smith-Wes' blast

So just dash or trespass and get your chest smashed

Rap New York rules, I sport jewels and extort crews

Don't get me pissed, I got a short fuse"

"I'm far from broke, got enough bread

And mad hoes, ask Beavis I get nuttin Butt-head"

"Some girls don't even know me askin me can they get some money

I'm looking nothing like your poppa

I wouldn't give a chick 10 cent to put cheese on a whoppa

They want to know why – I'm so fly

A girl asked me for a ring and I put one-around her whole eye"

Also a lot of L's rhymes are punch-line driven. swithcing from idea to idea, rather than narratives/stories/tear-jerkers. Rather than make you think, they make you laugh.

I could go along with that. I hesitate to compare them though. If for no other reason than I consider L to be a much better emcee. If he were still alive he would destroy Wayne freestyling. I often wonder how popular he would be if he were still alive. Back when he was still around he was considered, by some of NY's greatest emcees, to be one of their greatest lyricists and a huge influence.

RIP L
