data: Hey! Seems like we keep running into each other on the Internets every couple years. Still think your tunes on the beepdealers chipdisk are some of the best around. I really should check out what you're up to these days. And about Zabutom, I agree 100% -- in terms of sheer compositional skill, no one can touch him.

thanks man, these days im all about cheesy 80's music though, haven't even tried making any type of chiptune in years, though i always feel like doing so whenever i listen to our old stuff. i talked to bitshifter a while back and he told me that if i ever decide to pick up the gameboy again, im welcome to play at some kinda chip festival he's co-organizing in nyc. though tempting, i can hardly even remember how to load a track in lsdj anymore, hehe.

anyway, my stuff's in my sig if you wanna check it out. :)

Little bird tells me, it's on it's way. :fear:

Also what's up nullsleep, really enjoyed blipfest 09. Can't wait for the next one.

I recommend everyone check out Radix, and little-scale.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

Echo: I think the chip music scene is the same as any other -- some good, some bad, some ugly. I think your comment on netlabels being "too pussy" to release vinyl is a little bizarre. In my experience it usually comes down to a question of money more than balls as the deciding factor here.

Show me another scene that has a yearly festival that celebrates stagnation with laugh-out-loud embarrassing performances.

Theres only so much you can do with a squarewave before it gets old.

EXPERT BIT TWIDDLERS (2010) "The Chip Tribute To Aphex Twin"

(should say i haven't heard it yet though so i've no idea if it's any good)

My friend sent me this from /mu/ yesterday, but I still have yet to listen to it. He liked the Come To Daddy one the most.

Yeah, it's just alright. Come To Daddy and 73 Yips are the best. Some of the others are decent, but I get the feeling that it's mostly the track itself doing all the work.

I would love to hear a good chiptune version of 4. Maybe I should give it a shot! Either that or Crying In Your Face... I think that would transfer well to chip, and be easier to do!

We seem to have a fundamental difference in opinion, and I have no desire to "convert" you, so let's just leave it at that.

lol I wish more people on WATMM would handle flamebait with such tact.

I do believe that chiptune stuff has quite a bit to do with nostalgia from old video games, as frankly, everyone I know that likes it is just as nerdy as me, if not more. Being able to point out sounds that you heard in your childhood in those old games just makes people like me feel warm and fuzzy (best example is when I heard a sound that was like the noise Koffing made in Red when you sent him out). It's also cool, to me, that you can make stuff that sounds quite cool (again, to me) using something I used to futz around with during my elementary years.

I would love to purchase some chiptune on vinyl though.

Someone told me that there was only 25 copies of Saskrotch's Nintendo Breaks Volume one. Could be bull but imagine having a copy of that, pfwoah.

The micromusic picture 12" is a fun one to have. My link

Nullsleep, 8bps should press up some of the more popular releases on some limited runs. I know they'd fly off the shelves. The CD's in the shop seem to do pretty well.

I'd love to have Bitshifter's Information Chase, Random's Bad Joke EP, Stu's GreateST HITs, I, Cactus, or Electric Heart Strike.

Mull it over!

No offence to Saskrotch, but I'm not the hugest fan of his music. I did dig a video of his performance at blipfest 08 on vimeo though.
