could you pick your neighbors out of a lineup?

each summer i have one or two bonfires with the next door neighbors, so i know them pretty well. and everyone on the street gets together at the rich neighbor's house each year for a yankee swap christmas party.

For me, it's a few different answers.

My next-door neighbor is a buddy of mine.

The downstairs neighbors are people I've seen several times in the hall but never talk to other than the occasional "Hey".

I just met a couple of them because i helped a lady and her daughter (who's kinda cute) change a tire. other than that i have no idea who my neighbors are.

i've taken nude photographs of more than one of my neighbors. the guy who sublet the first floor and third floor of my building was a former erotic dancer so he let these broke, ex stripper, pornstar wanabe, horrible prostitute women (and a tranny) stay in our building. they wanted pictures to give to escort services or whatever to market themselves. i did four shoots. none of them were hot and each shoot made me feel extremely dirty for a day or two afterwards. i've erased all of my copies of the pictures after burning cds for the 'clients' because i never want to see them again... the people or the pictures.

my other neighbors were two dominican brothers from the bronx. one was a security guard for offices in new york city, and the other was a gangster and a drug dealer. the first one was a really cool guy and we got along just fine. the other one was always trying to con me out of whatever cash i had. the rest of the time he talked about how he wasn't too short for a man, how strong he was for a skinny guy, and how many beautiful women he had all over his dick (although the only girls i saw him with were fat ugly chicks). they moved but i see them from time to time.

there was a moroccan rapper who lived upstairs for about a week (maybe longer... i knew him for a week). i did a photo shoot for his promo stuff and it turned out well. one of the shots is on my website. he wanted me to shoot a music video for him,but i would have needed all new equipment and training. that was a concept he could not wrap his head around and i avoid him now for the most part.

right now there's a tall thin girl from sweden or finland (can't remember) living upstairs. she dresses like she might be a ballet dancer or something. she had some problem with the dancer guy from before. he failed to pay the utilities for her floor. i let her use my shower.

some of my neighbors keep to themselves and i don't see them much, but i recognize them.

i know their faces and some of their names. we'll say "alright" to each other if we're out the front at the same time.

ive made the effort to meet all 300 people who live in my student halls building at least a few times and find out a tiny abit about them. i think theres like 20 people i havent met though. back at home i knew all 20 people on my street pretty well, my mum brought me up to be lovely to people.

I'm about to move out of the condo complex I live in (I rent though), and I know everyone's face, as well as a couple people by name. That and the "people" I know best aren't actual humans, but the posse of cute but likely incestous feral cats that hang around the place.

As for my actual next door neighbors, one couple moved out and the other guy, who was only in his 30s, died a few months ago. He had cut his hand really bad moving a large mirror down some stairs one weekend, and my fiance and I and a couple of other residents assisted him get cleaned up when we heard it crash. He had to get stitches and wear a cast because he severed a tendon. A couple weeks later in Brazil, it got infected when he went swimming. He was hospitalized when he returned to the states, and passed away not long after. It was quite surreal.

I'm really good friends with my neighbor across the hall so he just walks in whenever he wants. Actually, he really kind of blasts in. He has funny hair and we sometimes call him a hipster doofus. He is always coming up with the craziest schemes although one he was talking about the other day was quite relevant. It was for oil tankers to have a giant rubber bladder to help prevent spills. Not sure how it would work on a rig though. Anyway he tested it and it kind of landed on my girlfriend (at the time) so she got mad at me just for saying hello.
