have you seen Aria?

Yeah. A long time ago. His segment was "Nessun Dorma" with something about a car crash, right?

but isn't it pretentious to claim that you are so special that if a movie's plot is unable to engross you, then it is pretentious?

Maybe it's just the fact that it's so fucking hyped.

People shitting themselves over this one film. The guy makes Elephant Man and people shit themselves over Eraserhead?

I always felt it was the other way around.

To me, it never seemed like people gave a shit about Eraserhead when it is a much more important work of cinema, imo.

After all, "The Elephant Man" did receive 8 Oscar nominations.

Just sayin.

Also, I can see how someone can feel like Eraserhead is "pretentious", but to me it seems like it just doesn't give a fuck.

You can call me pretentious if you like but it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

I think it is pretty fuckin rad. I remember the first time I saw it, when I was in high school, it felt like I was watching a dream I had when I was a kid that I had completely forgotten, almost like the film had come from my own subconscious. I can't think of any other cinematic experience I've had that can compare.

have you watched inland empire?

just asking because that's his other film that is in the same "completely-over-thetop artistic freedom not giving a fuck" attitude. and it's quite dreamlike. highly recommended, you don't even need to sit through the full three hours at one time to appreciate how great it is. tied with a few others (nashville, eternal sunshine) for my favorite film of all time.

rumor has it that Kubrick once brought a group of friends to a private screening at his house, he wanted to show them his 'favorite movie' and it ended up being Eraserhead.

and also, rumour has it that Kubrick filmed the moon landing after NASA found the actual footage to be too revealing of some information within the original film....After having made this fake footage, Kubrick felt such depression that his next films would all be commentaries, dark ones, on the nature of man, with The Shining being his most cathartic work in which he envisioned himself as being Jack Torrance, having the knowledge of the real events captured on film during the moon landing, which drove Mr Kubrick insane for a time....rumour has it :emotawesomepm9:

Wait, the way you worded this confused the fuck outta me. I assume you're talking about 2001. What happened? Was Kubrick forced to re-shoot the lunar landing sequence in the film because it was too realistic?

How would NASA know Kubricks footage was that realistic if Kubrick shot his film nearly 2 years prior to the actual moon landing?
