Remixes

No surprise that Ed and Andy are my favorite remixers as well. A lot of times when I hear a remix it doesn't seem to deviate too much from the originals premise (even if it changes sub-genres), but their remixes always seem to take just enough of the original, but then morph it into something that is their own. I don't know if that's the best way to describe it. The only other artist/s who I can say give me a similar impression with their remix work is Reload/Global Communication.

As for my personal favorite it would have to be Balil's remix of Shambala. The strings in this song are beyond compare, other than perhaps by other Balil tunes. A lot of musicians and people rant and rave about Derrick May's strings, but for me I don't think anyone does it better than Ed.

Another one of my favorites that is under the radar is Plaid's remix of Scalaland's "Snow White Lies." It used to be on Youtube, but it seems to have been taken down, but the drum programming in this one was absolutely amazing. I think this remix is a good example of what I was trying to describe above when you listen to the original and then the Plaid mix.

off the top of my head, i like the remix they did of Jung Collectives' "Street Preacher" (i think it's called), a lot.

it's a pretty simple one compared to others they've done, but it's really nice. nice beats and cool bassline.

also, 'Metrodade' is a favourite. that remix is awesome! it's one of their best, imho.

it's almost a complete other track! (like a lot of their remixes are, but this one is exceptional).

really really nice progressions aswell as melody. what Plaid do best. :)

yeah that's a good one.. wow, there's hundreds of remixes when you think about it!!

another couple that come to mind are, Addie Brik, 'Bonded' remix. and the one they did for Atom Heart.. i forget what that one's called.... ?

this is a good thread :)

Oh yes, Shambala is a great remix (being the original good as well). The water running in the begining, the strings, the melody, so beautiful.

Aphex Twin and, as you said Global Communication/Reload are for me the ones who most likely can preserve the original feeling and apply their touch. GC's remixes are f***ing beautiful really.

Without intention of being offtopic, i specially love this one:

It's strange really, listening to Plaid remixing Autechre, but it came out pretty good actually!

Plaid do really put great effort into their mixes and Im sure anyone would be happy to stick out anything with a plaid mix regardless to make sales on their name.. but Plaid always step up and usually, infact possibly always? :) outdo the original track they're mixing.. and as we all know put their own spin on it - an obvious example Shambala.. you peeps cant fail to mention some classic mixes as there are sooooooo many..

Gaylord, you were right on the nail about Ed and his strings!!! Cant find the 2 mixes of Shango on the net.. anyone point direction??

I have them, the two. But aren't they credited as being remixed by The Black Dog?

could somebody upload an MP3 of 'Shango', please? is that allowed??

or just link me to where i can hear it, if that will avoid having a bunch of blood thirsty lawyer types descend on watmm!

i don't think i've heard it before. would love to have a listen.

cheers, in advance, if it's possible.
