Indeed it is. Whoever "remastered" from the original recording did a pretty terrible job. Way over the top on the compression.

a lossless would be possible if the person who recorded the set off the soundboard has his original uncompressed recording. however that is merely speculation due to the device recording it may have been set to record directly to 128kbps mp3, and thus no better version is even in existence. people who re-encode already compressed mp3s just blow my mind...if you were going to "remaster" the original, you should release your version in lossless as not to make the compression even sloppier. even though the lossless file would only be 128bit quality, it at least wouldn't be degraded by ANOTHER encode. regardless, there are 3 versions of this mp3 on the net. the 128kbps original, the 256kbps "remastered" (a re-encode), and the 320kbps (another re-encode).

yes, sure. let's just hope it was recorded in .wav/aiff format and the person who recorded this is willing to share it one day.

Even if the section around 18khz is just aliasing or some similar artefact from 'enhancing' it, there's still the extra 14-16Khz section that wouldn't exist if you simply changed the volume and dynamics then transcoded it ....

IIRC both versions originally appeared from the same watmmer (I think it was ~ism, but don't quote me on that)... I think that he claimed to have "found" the more recent 256 version in his archives or whatever, but my strong suspicion is that he's got the lossless recording and is just holding out for some reason or another.

ya we need the lossless soundboard. who ripped this?

Just compared the 256 to the 128. The 128 is far better. More clean, sharp and detailed. Not a fan of the processing on the 256 at all.

Ps does anyone else think that the Hemsby set is pretty much the Glasgow set put through an Autechre filter.

It's like they used a previous set as the basic sound file for another set and tweeked the shit out of it as only they know how.
